Whose visited what this year

He visited the closed site to wander around the public portions of path and see what was still present/visible onsite; I believe this is to what he refers.

That's a bit strained :D -by that logic if I drive past Twycross on the public highway it's a visit too :).

I'd say that ZG's attempt to assess what was left of Blackbrook was a deliberate visit i.e. he went there specifically to look at the site. Driving past Twycross(without stopping) on the A444 wouldn't be the same thing, even if you did look through the hedge and see a couple of Giraffe....;)

Managed 85 different zoos this year..67 of them new, making a life list of 713,incidentally re. ZG`s list I DIDNT include the IZES meet at RSCC..because technically it was a closed collection.Oh,and with my typing speed I wont be typing a list...sorry folks!

Shepreth (January)
London (X2) (May and October)
Africa Alive (July)

But that is it.

This year or 2016, Hopefully I will be going back to Whipsnade zoo because
I haven't been there since February 2014 and I want to see how it has all changed.

I know there is a new Visitor centre and A butterfly house but does anyone know what new Enclosures or Buildings are coming in 2016?

64 visits to 60 collections for me: way down on my highest ever (134/107 in 2002), but remarkably consistent with the last few years. I was pleased to add 18 new collections to my list:

Oooh, good/fair point, but does this mean if I travel to a zoo, get stuck in traffic, and arrive after closing that's still classed as a visit? :D

I was going to add that this is all hypothetical and that's unlikely to really happen, then remembered that I drove to Birmingham Nature Centre (or whatever it's currently called) on Monday, 28th December only to find it closed :o (and then drove to Dudley instead:)).

Now I'm confused, was this a visit? It didn't feel like one. :)

Yes, I'd class that situation as visiting- you were intending that as your destination and you arrived- 'you visited- but it was closed.' It was still a visit, albeit not a normal one. Whereas if you were just driving past a place with no intention of stopping then you weren't intending to visit so it wasn't one...:D

There is also an outside chance I will be going to Manchester Museum on the 31st. I have matched my best year for zoo visiting at 42 collections, so it depends if I can be bothered to break my current record or not on the day.

*I have been told I have visited Muncaster Castle and Newquay Zoo when I was a lot younger, but I remember nothing about the visits. I haven't counted these as first visits this year, but both collections have felt like first visits.

**Many will be familiar that Peak Wildlife Park is the new collection on the site of Blackbrook Zoo. I visited Blackbrook a few times so I was familiar with the site and it didn't feel like a first visit, however as I am counting this as a separate collection I am treating this as a first visit.

Just to update, I managed to do Manchester Museum so have added if to the list.

Very few this year:

Twycross
Chester
Yorkshire Wildlife Park
Gentleshaw
I think Colchester at the beginning of the year
Monkeyworld
Woburn
Whipsnade

Only four collections for me this year:-

The Jungle Zoo - one visit
Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park - 9 visits, maintaining my record of an extra visit each year
Flamingo Land - 13 visits, just boosted by three in eight days (23/12, 29/12, 31/12)
Sewerby Zoo - 179 "visits", meaning I set foot in the zoo on 179 days this year, including just to sweep the kitchen or even less (down from 188 days last year)

I did have a zoo-filled end to the year, as the last day I did not visit a zoo was 17th December (this includes social calls armed with Christmas crackers in the mornings and helping out in the afternoons at Sewerby on Christmas Day and Boxing Day).

Is this a mistake? I'm sure Blackbrook ceased last year?

Well almost but as Pertinax said it was a purpose visit,to see just what hadn't happened at the site, and we did get a pretty good wander round due to somebody, putting a public footpath right through the middle of the park!

Also it very much still looked like Blackbrook which it most certainly doesn't in many ways now!
