Worst enclosure photo on Zoochat

I should say that at the Medan Zoo only the primate cages were this bad, most of the other cages ranged from alright to relatively good.

The worst Asian zoos I've been to (and I haven't been to anywhere near as many as, say, Peter Dickinson) are the Bukittinggi Zoo in Sumatra, Jong's Crocodile Farm and Mini Zoo in Sarawak, and the Angkor Zoo in Cambodia. Reviews and photos of all of these are on this forum.

The worst in Australia I've seen was the disgraceful Alma Park Zoo in Brisbane. In New Zealand the Landon Creek Bird Sanctuary down by Dunedin, which got closed down fortunately, and the filthy EcoWorld Aquarium in Picton.

What about using it as a verb?
"Don´t you dare to yorik me!" or "He wanted to argue so I yoriked him off!""

:D

"yorik" might work as a noun AND a verb.

"Dang it, some stupid dog yoriked on the front lawn and now I've got yorik all over my shoe."

Are there any good zoos at all in SE Asia? (Other than Singapore Zoo.)

PS* You have a good stomach to go to those zoos. On a sidenote, why do you visit those zoos knowing what you will see? Doesn't it break your heart knowing you can't do anything to help the animals?

@BZF- Our turkey vulture, barred owl (or was it spotted owl?), and great horned owl cages should be up here, too. :o

Yeah, most of our bird of prey exhibits are pretty crappy. The turkey vulture and Barred Owl enclosures are nearly identical in size, only with some different objects in them, and the Great Horned Owl exhibit might be even smaller than these two exhibits. Though recently, I haven't seen the horned owl enclosure so either I'm not going near it or the exhibit's gone. More likely I'm a lazy looker.

Man, I think that all these pics are potential winners for the "worst exhibit award".

I recall seeing somewhere on the forum (I think it was here) a quite daft penguin exhibit (probably at the London Zoo?) for penguins to slide down a 'water-slide'? Does that ring any bells, and does anyone have a pic?

I think you're thinking of the (now disused, Grade I Listed) Lubetkin Penguin Pool:

Maybe we should institute a worst exhibit award show to highlight the messes that still need to be cleaned up un the zoo world.

We could call the "award" the "yorik".

@BZF- At least Buffalo's elephant exhibit has a large pool. And Beijing Zoo... awgh, makes my heart sink.

@SMR- As did I, and I was also expecting to see a lengthy argument on how useless of a thread it was! Boy were we wrong!

@DavidBrown, SMR: too funny. I would rather give the Yorik Award to a zoo for the worst enclosure rather than embarrass a not-so-great photographer (lest I win :D).

I expected Beijing Zoo to be better though, given China's prominence in pioneering Giant Panda conservation.
