WRS Mandai expansion plans

Ok thanks, I hope there will be the nasal monkey, and the sumatra rhino.

Proboscis Monkey (I'm guessing nasal monkey is a product of a translator) would be very likely, as the zoo has at least one breeding group and a bachelor group. Sumatran Rhino is virtually impossible.

But if there are the Orangutan , Malaysian tapirs, and gavial, it would have to be divided, otherwise it would be like in the jurassic park ahahahah:D

Yet the sumatra rhino is at risk of extinction, no zoo in the world has it, like the nasal ape

Beautiful, but the sumatra rhino?
It's very likely it will go extinct. The attempt to bring it into captivity was almost totally a failure. It may be attempted again when numbers reach the 20s.

Edit: I should point out the last sentence is pure speculation. But valid speculation, I suspect.

There is now a diorama on display at the entrance to the Zoo. It shows the whole of the Mandai development. I've added a few pictures to the Other gallery:

Not much new information, but a couple things I noted:

- there are aviaries in the Bird Park that are separate to the walkthroughs. This is welcome news as I think some of us were worried they might have commited to the walkthroughs as a design concept. Now we can hope to see lots of more delicate, or angry!, species displayed.

There are things called 'In Park Stations'. Maybe part of the MRT or LRT? I've always felt the Zoo was a bit of a pain to reach.

the look of the new Bird Park with its interconnected walk-through aviaries reminds me of a couple of South American collections I came across recently when looking at the world's biggest aviaries. I'll put a couple of videos below - I think Singapore's may look similar to how these are presented.

First, the Parque das Aves in Brazil:

Second, the Aviario Nacional de Colombia:

All very interesting and may cause me to finally visit Singapore once complete. But please, please, I am begging you, put marbled cat in the new Rainforest (or even the exisiting zoo - I am not that picky).

Singapore's just getting more and more expensive for Zoochatters!
Actually the addition of the 4for2 ticket has made the 'full set' a lot cheaper than it was 18 months ago, unless SEA has jacked up the prices.
I'm really worried that there will be Mandai accomodation that I technically could afford, but totally don't want to stump up for. It's much easier when it's just out of the question.
