Yorkshire Wildlife Park Yorkshire Wildlife Park News 2021

We had a booked slot yesterday at 12.30, got there was ushered into a car park area what seemed to me a really long way from the entrance. As we walked slowly because of mobility issues. Walked past car parks that could easily have accommodated the later schedule much closer to the entrance. Maybe this will change once they are fully open and will sort out the teething issues. It was great to come back to see the old and the new species, though some more sleepy during a siesta lunchtime in the warm sunshine, found that social distancing was being watched by most people it wasn't a problem & no dramas. Polar bears, I've missed the activities of the boys, has to be the the most popular area, I could spend a whole day with them. Good to see Hamish again now a big boy & full of energy, especially with a hose pipe that was his new toy, the keepers didn't remove when they were cleaning out a little tussle went on for awhile. Poor Nobby, was not his usual self with Luka all loved up with him, Nobby stuck on top of the hill, with Luka trying to get up there. We had a short day out, with an unexpected hike, looking forward to coming back early when all restrictions are off.

They could use the Old carpark for Annual Membership holders, as they have a gated access for walk ins, makes sense to me, keeping the regulars to invest with the annual membership and easy access. IMHO

Unfortunately there is no vehicle access for the general public via the old car park, I'm afraid. The gates are normally locked, and visitors' cars are re-directed to the new vehicular entrance at a new post code.
Annual Pass holders can however access YWP on foot either by a public footpath adjacent to the old main gate, or on foot along Brockholes Lane if they wish to use the old entrance to the Park.

Don't quote me on this but I swear I saw the young blonde girl who's normally on Secret Life talking about the meerkats... around the Atlantic Forest area. this was before I saw this post...

@Emily Grant are you talking about Kirsten? If you are from what I have seen Kirstern is a caring and devoted Zookeeper, and Yorkshire Wildlife Park have gained a great asset to their team.

I will now be avoiding this place. The founder Steve Minion owns an investment group called ‘The Zoo investment company.’ They own the land at South Lakes Safari Zoo. They have now made David Gill/Rivera their official agent and have insisted that he inspects the zoo land. Anyone who is involved with David Gill is best avoided!

Why would anyone running ‘a zoo with a very bright future’ associate themselves with David Gill who has a very poor track record of animal care?

Am I right in thinking Steve Minion has nothing to do with Yorkshire wildlife park anymore?

don’t think he does - he was a founding member. But an investor of zoo investment company (who have employed David Gill) - Chris Webster is a current chairman of YWP.

It felt like I was visiting a new zoo today what with the new entrance and with the sunny weather it felt like I was abroad too.

So, I was told that the 'weaker' of the two Hyenas is alive and no obvious cause for the other's death was found; no signs of being killed and was found out in the enclosure, presumably moved by mum away from the den.
You are right. I spoke to Kim on Wednesday and she confirmed what you said. The other pup seems to be coming on nicely.

Yorkshire Wildlife Park have announced that 'Point Lobos', their California sea lion enclosure, is now open to the public.

I knew it would be good, but wow  it’s amazing!!! It’s so refreshing to see a different style of sea lion enclosure compared to the typical ‘swimming pool’ look that lots zoos go for, with concrete floors and walls. This enclosure is so natural looking just like all the other reserves in the park. I’m so proud of YWP they have really set the bar high for any other zoos in the UK or Europe looking to get sea lions in the future! Can’t wait to visit :D

I'm stunned.... that looks absolutely incredible! I never thought YWP would be able to surpass 'Project Polar' in the 'wow' stakes, but this may just have done that. I'm very, very impressed!

To be honest I was always surprised that they were having sea lions, and was intrigued to see how their enclosure would fit the style of the park. I think they've pulled it off, to put it mildly!
