Shame to see him go and a sad time for the keepers. It remains a really good rescue story and the BBC have picked up on his death.

Am I missing an individual? Julie, Simba, Carla and Crystal are the ones I have listed as remaining?
Definitely only have four now, did the tour the other day and its Carla and Crystal together, Julie was with Ares in the second enclosure and Simba has been on his own since Maria died, wonder if they'll try putting Julie with Simba like they did with Ares.
I have no inside info but I didn’t see one in their habitat a couple of weeks ago and I looked everywhere!
Is the amazonas area open yet. I know that the capybaras have moved back in, have any of the other species moved back in. Also, has any new species arrived yet for the new exhibit and if not is there any information on what some new animals may be for the amazonas walkthrough.
I'm hoping(although this just my personal opinion) that they will re-home some more unwanted lions(either from a circus or run down zoo) but other than that take on some surplus non breeding lions from zoos/safari parks with surplus individuals IE; Longleat.

Don't know about new animals but one of the keepers told me it was opening next week
The YWP advertising banners by the M18 are currently advertising Amazonas as 'coming soon' and feature a Golden Lion Tamarin and a Silvery Marmoset, though that's no guarantee of course.
There is a members event to look at the new Amazonas reserve on 22nd and 23rd May so I imagine it will open to visitors next week.
Not that it comes as a massive surprise given the advertising hoardings, but the park have now confirmed that two Golden Lion Tamarins will be part of the Amazonas reserve - and that it will open on Wednesday 24th as speculated.

I think they will either rescue some more lions or re-home some bone breeding ones. A breeding pride would be nice however i can’t see it happening.
What i would do though:
• Have the large full circle enclosure for a pride
• Have the enclosure at the front side of the body of water for a small pride
• No one has mentioned this, but have the enclosure at the back of the body of water for a pair of cheetah. I think it would fit perfectly as a cheetah enclosure and would create great views having cheetah on one side and lions on the other.
Oh yes forgot about having to share a house, a new house could be built joined onto the lion one but i also thought of it was a breeding pair and the male needed to be separated, where would he go? Not sure it would work but would be a good view

I hope it is more African lions - even a non breeding group is good to watch. Taking lions to offer them a great home in good enclosures to enjoy a lengthy life is something YWP obviously do well.
There have been some notable lion deaths in succession of late in different collections as some of the current population reaches a more advanced age. I do enjoy Asiatic lions and from an endangered pov they are most at risk of course, but African lions are still valuable and I hope we see both continue to be well represented in collections here.
