Zoo animals you want to see but haven't yet

On this topic, it was a great thrill a few weeks ago, when visiting Mexico City's Chapultepec Zoo, to see their great exhibit for their unique Volcano Rabbits. After visiting over 210 zoos worldwide, it's fairly rare when I see an animal I've never seen before, so when it happens, it's a thrill.

Ajkwaba: You're in luck, the UK now holds all three hyeana species! (Though you'll have to hurry to Colchester quick before their elderly spotted hyeana kicks the bucket, and I've heard the Brown Hyeana at Port Lymnpe are very hard to see)

Actually, if you can make it to the Berlin Tierpark (in the former East Berlin), they have ALL THREE hyena species right there.

Blackduiker

I remember when the Los Angeles Zoo use to exhibit all three species of Hyenas; Brown, Spotted and Striped. But currently exhibit none. And they were also the first zoo to ever exhibit all four species of tapirs simultaneously; Malayan, Mountain, Baird's and South American. Currently they exhibit only Mountain and Baird's Tapirs. Hopefully they'll add the other two again someday.

When it comes to "complete collections", the Berlin Tierpark is the best I've ever seen, by far! They not only have all 3 hyena species on exhibit, but other examples include:
(a) Two different species of Takins.
(b) Three different species of Zebras, in adjacent yards.
(c) All four species of llamas in enormous side-by-side yards.
(d) Both Asian and African elephants, displayed near their ancient relatives, manatees.

Believe me, it's pretty impressive!

Speaking of rare animals, the Columbus Zoo's Roadhouse exhibit already contains quite a few very rare species (North Island Brown Kiwi, Banded Palm Civet, Tiger Quoll, Lesser Dog Faced Fruit Bat). We are planning to add new species because of a string of recent deaths. I'm hoping for some more rare species given the history of that building because we have previously housed Ground Cuscus and Tasmanian Devils.

Looking forward to hear what those new species may be.

I would love to see:

an aye-aye
a bonobo
wolverine

But there are also some I have seen in the past, but would like to see again, like:

aoudads
barasingha deer
caracals
black rhino

I do hope all of you who haven't seen a Pallas' cat yet will have a chance to soon.

They are really cute and interesting animals.

Pretty average list with some pretty ordinary animals (I just haven't been to a zoo that had them when I last went :p ) but:

Dingo
Platypus
Tasmanian Devil
Przewalski Horse
Asian Elephant
Javan/Indian/Sumatran Rhino
Sumatran Tiger
Golden Cheeked Gibbon
Woolly Monkey
Markhor

There are a others, but I either can't remember them, or they're unlikely to ever successfully be kept in captivity (like narwhal) or they're extinct

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with the cat list (except Canada Lynx, which is relatively common here in U.S.). Iberian Lynx breeding program is going better than expected, so maybe they will put some on display one day at a Spanish zoo (Zoo Jerez has some off-exhibit). And now that bornean clouded leopard is a separate species, I have to add that too (it was so much easier when we thought it was just a regular clouded leopard like those in zoos already). Marbled cat and Flat-headed cat can both be got at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand. In case you haven't heard, Chinese mountain cat has been downlisted to a subspecies of wildcat.

Chinese mountain cat has been downlisted to a subspecies of wildcat.

No it isn't. Study in 2007 has proven it is a close relative of the Wild Cat, but it's still an seperate species at the moment. I believe there are some CHinese Mountain Cats in Beijing Zoo and perhaps some other Chinese Zoos.
