Zoo animals you want to see but haven't yet

Well an animal has to not have been seen for 40 years for it to be declared extinct is they why they haven't already been declared extinct?

I'm trying to parse what the gist of your "sentence" is about.
can one parse the gist of something? It seems that would not be entirely possible. You could parse the sentence itself, but not the gist. I think?

He's under the impression something has to have been unseen for 40 years before being declared extinct (I thought it was 50 years), so maybe that's why it's not yet declared extinct officially.

:p

What are you talking about?
he is saying that your posts are difficult to understand because you don't bother writing them correctly. If you put some effort into spelling and grammar it will be easier for people to answer your posts.

Where have you seen Saiga given, as far as I remember, you didn't start visiting the continent (for zoos) until a few years after me and Cologne had gone out of them when I visited in 2010?

I'm not having a go, I'm just potentially excited that I may have over-looked somewhere keeping them (or sod's law, somewhere was keeping them that I was unaware of but has since stopped doing so).

I've seen the following:

Saiga
Proboscis monkey
Whale shark
Kiwi
Tasmanian devil
Giant panda
Aardwolf
Douc langur (two species :D )
Giant otter
Gerenuk
Indian gharial
Pangolin
Kagu
Uakari
Beluga
Amazon River dolphin
Tuatara
Bird of Paradise (multiple species)
Clouded leopard
Brown hyena
Wolverine
Steller’s sea lion
Orinoco crocodile
Shoebill
Aye-aye
Dingo
Sun bear
Sloth bear
Markhor
Emperor penguin
Kaka
Aardvark
Drill
Gelada
Spotted hyena
Crab-eating raccoon
Baird’s tapir
Pronghorn
Musk ox

39 by my count (three of which - Gelada, Spotted Hyaena, Pronghorn - I've seen wild as well).

It's interesting how some of these species are ones very seldom kept, others are relatively common zoo residents in some parts of the world but very rare elsewhere (like Gelada or Tasmanian Devil).

On the original topic, in terms of things either in zoos or fairly recently so, the ones that spring to mind I'd like to see are (in no particular order):

Sumatran Rhinoceros, Yapok, Platypus, Iberian Lynx (a relatively achievable one compared to my other choices!), Numbat, Greater Bilby, Zebra Duiker, Hirola, Giant Armadillo

Saw the last one at Highland Wildlife Park as a toddler in the 1980's - I don't remember it myself but my parents do. In that regard it doesn't really count :p but it's better than I'm going to get otherwise as far as that species goes!
