Zoo Heidelberg Zoo Heidelberg

At Zoo Heidelberg a Tufted deer has been born. It's a female and the third young of the breeding-pair. 2011 a female was born and 2012 a male.

The last and only White-tailed Ichneumon (Ichneumia albicauda)in Germany, has died recently.Unfortuntely, the zoo never got any females for him.

A new enclosure for racoons was opened in April, which is pretty nice.

Damn shame to hear about the White-tailed Ichneumon :(

In 1990 I got quite excited, white-tailed mongoose at London. Then I realised it was a yellow mongoose.

According to Zootierliste, there is another holder of them in europe-Tierpark Riegelsee in Switzerland.

At the beginning of 2014 Heidelberg recieved a pair of hand-raised Madagascar crested ibises. The birds felt so at home that they started a breeding-attemp and at the moment 2 young are in the nest and being parent-raised :)

Also the zoo has started doing preperations for the construction of the new enclosure for syrian brown bears and corsac foxes, planned to be opened next year.

Ludwig, a young Asian elephant from Münich was send to Heidelberg to be part of the bachelor-group :).

By the end of 2015, a Crowned Sifaka male "Manao" (8 years old) will be sent to Heidelberg, and Heidelberg will become the very first German zoo to participate in the sifaka EEP. :)
