Zoologická Zahrada Jihlava ZOO Jihlava news

I listened to the podcast. The new arrival is +20 years old male, 3 kg heavy, on temporary loan from Brno. His purpose is to test the newly refurbished tank - if it´s suitable for this species. And if he prospers living there, Jihlava will receive a bunch of babies that were bred by Plzen zoo.
So the beaded lizard that will arrive in Brno from Pilsen are Rio fuerte beaded lizards (Heloderma exasperatum). For some reason, in Czech zoos (Pilsen, Ustí nad Labem...) they are still refered to as a subspecies of Mexican beaded lizard.

Same is done by ZTL, maybe Czech establishments prefer to be a bit more conservative for a period of time? Like most other establishments to be honest, and anyway they're managed separately so no harm is done.

That they use ZTl taxonomy makes sense. But not using species that has been recognized 12 years ago is a little too conservative taxonomy for me (especially considering how soon many zoos implemented other taxonomic changes, like starting labeling their Rothchild´s giraffes as Nubian).

Zoo Jihlava is closed because of avian flu. Two young wild mute swans that were found dead in the zoo had positive tests. Another 15 mute swans and greylag geese living in the same pond as dead swans had to be put down to prevent spreading the disease. Pond in the zoo is going to be dried out, to prevent wild waterbirds spending time in the zoo. The zoo should be open on Saturday.
