It would make some sense, although there's a good chance these bears may not be reproductively active anymore. Based on the link provided by Loxodonta Cobra, the US switched their focus onto the Bornean subspecies in the late 1990's and had very little success with them. Europe, on the other hand, focuses on the Malayan subspecies, making most US bears not very useful even without the lack of breeding. This also means that most or all of the Malayan Sun Bears in the US (which Miami's were) are likely extremely old and not reproductively active. Also, checking the old Global Species records, as of 2010/2011 only Miami and Atlanta still had Malayan Sun Bears in the US.

The zoo has lost a lot of animals popular to the public and I assume adored by their keepers in recent years. These deaths include their silverback gorilla, their bull african elephant, their female asian elephant from the Central Florida Zoo, multiple giraffes of various subspecies, a malayan tiger, their famous white tiger, a lioness that died after giving birth, The oldest koala outside of Australia, and their beloved ambassador king cheetah "King George". Sometimes it's better to tell a small lie than keep a bigger truth.
