Zoo Ostrava Zoo Ostrava news

- @Kharzo and I visited the zoo yesterday and we saw a juvenile northern greater galago.
- Also, the male caracal was separated from the female and her cubs and temporarily moved to the former clouded leopard exhibit.
- The boreal owl and Eurasian pygmy owl aviaries were empty, the signs were also gone.
+ EDIT: The little owls are also not signed anymore and their nesting boxes were switched for different ones, not suited for this species.
- The reconstruction of the row of aviaries above La Pampa is mostly finished. The white-necked ravens were moved bts, their aviary is now occupied by two crested caracaras. Those used to share space with Andean condors until not so long ago.
- Visayan warty pigs will move to a new exhibit. The spotted deer exhibit is getting split in two and the pigs are going to be moved there. I don't know the plans for their former enclosure, but I think this decision is quite logical, because it could finally stop visitors from petting and feeding them...

Zoo Ostrava was able to successfully join together their Indian lion pair (5 years old female and 13 years old male) together in one exhibit. Just a few scuffles, and lions are now together all the time, and the male even tried mating with the female. I hope they will have some breeding success, after problems they had with their previous female (and quickly, because of how old their male is). Source: Zoo Ostrava - oficiální stránky
