Here's a question that I don't think we've ever addressed. What checklist is everyone using?

You mean to check them off your year/life list?

:p

I don't strictly follow one checklist, I just use whatever the bird guide that I have uses (for Europe I use the Collins guide to the birds of Britain and Europe). Additionally, if I want to research a bird further, I will go to Handbook of the Birds of the World Alive | HBW Alive which follows the checklist from Handbook Birds of the World and the Illustrated Checklist of Birds of the World.

42 Montane Vole - Microtus montanus
43 American Mink - Neovison vison
44 Rock Squirrel - Spermophilus variegatus

264 Semipalmated Sandpiper - Calidris pusilla
265 Dusky Grouse - Dendragapus obscurus
266 Sanderling - Calidris alba
267 Common Tern - Sterna hirundo
268 Broad-tailed Hummingbird - Selasphorus platycercus

269 Green Heron - Butorides virescens

Yes. Different regions have different lists, and not all of them line up with each other.

I use my field guides to identify the birds, like LaughingDove.

A few years ago I downloaded a list of Australian & NZ Birds (including introduced species and recorded vagrants) from I think Wikipedia, and I've put that into a spreadsheet which I've been using each year.

I also have Birdbase which I use for both wild birds and those seen in zoos.

And finally I also enter all my sightings into eBird. When there are discrepancies I tend to defer to eBird.

Update from Switzerland, so now new birds from 3 continents within 1 week.

368. Black woodpecker

I have been hearing them regularly since I moved to Switzerland in spring, even from my office, but I saw my first only today when I was walking through the forest close to my house.

Back in Kenya now and during a walk in the Karura forest I was able to see some new birds, unfortunately most of this forest is eucalyptus, but the eucalyptus free parts still had some new species:

369. Yellow-billed duck
370. Long-crested eagle
371. Grosbeak weaver
372. Bronze mannakin
373. White-bellied tit
374. Plain martin
375. Northern pied babbler

47. Harveys duiker

The score from 1,5 days of driving through the Kenyan countryside looking for Lantana invasions:

376. Grey crowned crane
377. Somali golden-breasted bunting
378. Parrot-billed sparrow
379. Silvery-cheeked hornbill
380. Senegal lapwing
381. African black-headed oriole

382. African green pigeon

The cranes were species number 700 on my life list :). Mammal wise it was really poor, but we did not pass any wildlife reserves only common zebra, thomson gazelle, impala and olive baboon. Allthough I may have seen some patas monkey, but they were to far away to tell...

389. Silverbird

217. cattle egret.
I was looking through my list last week when I realised I hadn't checked off a cattle egret for the year. I had seen some but didn't tick them. Anyway I spotted one today so I can finally add it to the year list.

390. Meyers parrot
391. Red- and yellow barbet
392. Spotted thick-knee
