I haven't updated in a while, because I haven't really been out birding and couldn't be bothered posting birds individually. So these are a bulk lot from the last month.

Went out for a full morning of birding yesterday, hoping to find the pectoral sandpiper, red-necked phalarope and glossy ibis that have been seen locally. Spectacularly failed on all three counts, but did still manage to find one new bird plus my second reptile of the year, which ran over my shoe when it was crossing a path:

A first bird update with birds seen in Luxemburg, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia and Czechia ;) I haven't really done any birding this year, so these are mainly species I picked up when traveling around or during walks in the Swiss jura... The peregrine falcon was seen from Prague's Charles bridge, so that is the most classy European bird this year for me ;)

That is true, but I did hardly see anything special and missed quite a few of the standard species. But that is just the difference between field work in Europe compared with field work in Africa...
 
New place, new birds! Was going for a couple exciting woodpeckers that had been spotted there, but I'm happy with these two as well.

Both red and fallow deer in Hertfordshire are a lot shier than in the roe deer in Norway, and start fleeing as soon as you are within 80m away from them, whereas the Norwegian roe deer allow you to be no more than 4 metres away until they walk in the opposite direction.
