ZooChat Big Year 2019

Good bit of birding this morning gave me three more species for the year. Also may have seen a Rainbow Trout but only saw the tail end of the jump so not sure.

I've got a fair few additions to my list. Most of the inverts (as well as the thrush and spoonbill) are from a walk in a local reserve with @lintworm, and I saw quite a few mollusc lifers because of him. The others are picked up here and there.

Where did you see the powerful owl?
A patch of forest called Shepherds Bush in eastern Melbourne :) There's a well-known pair that hang out there and are seen through most of the year. They also successfully raise chicks most years despite the spot being within a suburban environment and heavy traffic (birding, dog-walkers, etc.)

Narrowly dodged a flight of three of Alaska’s State Bird as I was driving near a river today. -25F, bright blue sky, brilliant winter sun and then blazing white, with their black outer tail-feathers looking like rudders as the birds glided crisply into the bottom and were lost in the drifts of snow.
