So.... you're presumably claiming to now hold the record for earliest Nightingale sighting in the UK this year, and at a time which is near-unprecedented for the species overall?

given a) presuming you mean the species usually given that name, it's a European species and b) those species found in your neck of the woods are pretty tricky to differentiate without close examination.Even dates from less than a week ago?

If you give common names it can lead to confusion..
Fine, I will put scientific names in the future, I have always referred to Aquarius Remigis when talking about the Common water strider, didn't realize there were others called that.
And provide enough plausible deniability that people can get away with making vague but unsubstantiated claims
but as I said, there are a *lot* of near-identical species in your area, and A. remigis isn't even the most commonplace of the dozen found in Minnesota.

Hate to break it to you, but what is ''common water strider'' in my side of the world, is known as Gerris lacustris. This is because we live in completely different places of the world where the concept of what species is tagged ''Common'' is different. So my appologies that to me this is not common knowledge
.This is why I will always stress to put down scientific names. Especially for invertebrate species since species can have multiple common names not known in other parts of the world. A scientific name is always known. As a fellow invertebrate enthusiast I thank you for considering to use scientific names in the future!Not my intend.

Easter weekend update. My first herp and some nice inverts from an afternoon in the parents' garden on Easter Sunday, then a trip out to North Cave Wetlands and the Hagg Lane Flash/Misson area on the Notts/Yorks border today to top up the feather quotient.
