Happened to visit Atlanta a couple weeks ago so why not! I've been meaning to be a bit more zoo-active this year so I'll just update accordingly.

Do multiple subspecies count? And according to which taxonomy? I'm listing the ones I'm certain of at any rate.

Zoo Atlanta
  1. Southern African Lion (Panthera leo melanochaita)
  2. Sumatran/Sunda Tiger (Panthera tigris sondaica)
  3. Bush Dog (Speothos venaticus)
  4. *Japanese Raccoon Dog (Nyctereutes viverrinus)
  5. Sun Bear (Helarctos malayanus)
  6. Giant Panda (Ailuropoda melanoleuca melanoleuca)
  7. Giant Otter (Pteronura brasiliensis)
Red pandas were hiding for the day. As was, as usual, the fossa :P Sadly, the binturong died not long ago.

*I'm assuming they're this as the zoo labels them Tanuki. They look more like Mainland procyonoides to me though.

Animals only count at species level. If sometime later in the year you see an Amur Tiger or an Asian Lion you can't count them, as you already have Tiger and Lion on your list.

I like how the zoo's website says "while they are sometimes called raccoon dogs..."

They are mainland Raccoon Dogs. The zoo is just calling them tanuki because it is the trendy name currently due to social media.
