I disagree. I think he needs to work if he suddenly shows up in the middle of the year with 410 species.

And I think you're being unnecessarily pedantic. Jay made a suggestion to add subtotals, but this was never made into an official rule. Why would you think people have to work? It's a game...

Besides all this, I'm impressed by the total counts already! I don't think anyone got 400 (not even sure if anyone got 300?) in the 2016 British and Belgian/Dutch challenges with the same theme!

I totally agree with @Vision , it was never a rule to add subtotals and Thylo clearly has put lot of work in listing the species he saw; let alone adding their binomial names for all of them. As such I think you're being very pedantic as said before and very insisting on something that was never necessary in the beginning (nor is it now).

Also does it occur to you that if maybe he just posted everything he saw, it's because he didn't have time; just discovered the topic or maybe waited to have enough additions to post? As the rules say: your word is your bond so doubting of someone only because he has been to quite some zoos (and even has photographic proof that he has been to all those zoos, look at the gallery); is quite ridiculous to me...

My reptile lifelist is about 625 right now, but considering my low frequency of seeing wild animals I’d say probably around 600 of those are captive in American collections. Based on my knowledge at what’s kept at zoos I haven’t been to (or off exhibit at those I have) I’d say a safe number is 850-900. The number is much higher when considering the private trade.
 
For the record, and to save @ThylacineAlive from having to go to the effort of defending himself further against needless, rude and provocative jibes.....

I am given to understand that the reason it took him until now to upload his total for the challenge is that until this week he was still going through his extensive notes and photographs from the trip he undertook throughout the southern USA at the start of this year - this being the source of the first 356 species in his list - as before uploading a total he wanted to ensure he had correctly identified those species which he had seen but which were unlabelled.

Right you are! I haven't thoroughly gone through my photos for my zoo visits since that trip yet so the total may go up slightly due to any "to be identified" animals I've forgotten about.

What a nice selection of reptiles for an aquarium! Lots of first timers for you, as they would be for me too, except Nile Crocodile and Diamondback Terrapin.
