ZooChat "Slang"

And of course member abbrevations, which can also be useful:

TLD - TeaLovingDave
Chli - Chlidonias
Sim - Simon Hampel
Thylo - ThylacineAlive
OC - Onychorynchus coronatus
ZF15 - Zoofan15
Funky - Funky Gibbon

Think that's more or less it for the more widespread ones, have also heard AD in relation to Arizona Docent etc.

HWP - Highland Wildlife Park, also.
And of course AL - amur leopard:)

CPZ = Central Park Zoo
This is one I don't like. CPZ could imply the Central Park Zoo, or the Capron Park Zoo, or the Cameron Park Zoo, or any number of other zoos with these initials. I think we need to be very cautious when using abbreviations that they can't be misunderstood for something else. For instance, it may be okay to use CPZ in a thread about Central Park Zoo, but I wouldn't recommend using it in a general zoo discussion thread.

Another thing I've only heard on zoochat is calling a tiger, giraffe, leopard, etc. "Generic". Not an acronym, but something that could fit "zoochat slang"

I always thought retic is used for the reticulated python, not the giraffe.

I've heard it used for both but the python is typically what I thing of first when I heard this.

As for 'CPZ', I've never been to any zoo with those initials other than Central Park and have seldom had online discussion about them so I suppose that isn't an issue I've encountered. You make a point, though. That said, I feel many acronyms could be applied to more than one zoo. Does PPZ stand for Prospect Park, Popcorn Park, or Potter Park, for instance. And LD could be a zoo or @LaughingDove :p

Just a certain type of keeper who is interested mainly in the domestic goats, and much less interested in the actual true species in the same collection. Trust me, I’ve worked with those people

I see, probably these are people who just want to cuddle domestic animals.

They would perhaps be better suited to work in a petting zoo or on farms if only the livestock were not to be slaughtered.
