I had heard they had four quaggas.
A lot of erroneous information has been published about London Zoo's quaggas but if you check the Proceedings of the Zoological Society of London and Major Flower's List of Vertebrated Animals (Centenary Edition; 1929) you'll see that there were only three. The late Reinhold Rau, quagga expert from the South African Museum, also confirmed in his writings that London Zoo only had three quaggas.
