Zoochatters who’ve seen (a) proboscis monkey(s)

For quite a long time (considering my age) I’ve been really interested in the wonderful, but also oddly looking proboscis monkeys. I’ve been lucky enough to see two individuals in Apenheul (Netherlands) in 2015. I’m really interested to know which people have seen this species, how many individuals, where and when. And if you have anything else to say about them, please go ahead!

I believe the year was 1987 cause I wanted to actually see Giant Panda displayed at the Bronx Zoo. I did go into the Jungle World exhibit and remember seeing the Proboscis Monkeys. There were several of them and one being a large male, females and juveniles. At time of visit they weren't active but resting in the trees of the exhibit. Indeed they were a very big monkey species, and colorful grey and tan colors. It was wonderful to see this species in my live time. It also is the only zoo in States to display them.

I saw Proboscis monkeys for the first time in Singapore Zoo in 2007 and I saw them wild in 2018. They're quite easy to see in the wild if you take a boat trip as they live in forest close to rivers.

I have seen Proboscis monkeys in Twycross Zoo and the Bronx Zoo as well.

Ive seen proboscis monkeys in Cologne Zoo, Stuttgart (Wilhema) Zoo, Twycross Zoo and Bronx Zoo.

Frankfurt, Basel and Twycross are the places I believe I have seen them in the past. Maybe Cologne also but cannot remember them there.

I saw Proboscis monkeys for the first time in Singapore Zoo in 2007 and I saw them wild in 2018. They're quite easy to see in the wild if you take a boat trip as they live in forest close to rivers.

That’s amazing! Let’s hope this will still be the case in a couple of decades (or centuries ideally)

I saw the last individual at Apenheul shortly before it was returned to Singapore. I did that visit mostly to see the proboscis monkey, as it will likely remain my only chance of ever seeing the species.

I saw the last individual at Apenheul shortly before it was returned to Singapore. I did that visit mostly to see the proboscis monkey, as it will likely remain my only chance of ever seeing the species.

I saw the last individual in Stuttgart the day before it was sent to New York.

I visited Stuttgart Zoo on two consecutive days. On the first day I spent a long while watching the proboscis monkey; on the second day the exhibit was empty and a keeper told me it had been sent to Bronx Zoo earlier that day.

I saw them in Singapore Zoo in 2015. I also feel almost sure that I'd seen them somewhere before that - Twycross? Apenheul? Without looking back through photos I can't say.
