Zoogiraffes tongue in cheek look forward to 2013

Although the thought of converting the Twycross Giraffe House for Giant tortoises sounds rather silly , it is what was done at Paignton some years back .

I'll throw in one for Belfast: at least one new spectacular species! :)

Think you will find that I already forecast that one in my bit about Belfast already,as I for one have learn't over the years that Belfast, has a habit of getting odd species under the radar, and long may it continue,as to me Belfast is the most under rated collection in the UK,and is worth a visit by any zoochatter!!!

Belfast Zoo as normal they throw a few surprises with new species arriving

CHESTER

Following the success (?) of having the wonderful new giftshop outside the admission point:

March:
It is announced that the Elephant House is to become a Teso Extra store. The elephants relocate to Portacabins in their outdoor enclosure.

May:
The Monkey House becomes a Sports Direct outlet. The Keepers' Kitchen becomes a Starbucks. The monkeys relocate to Portacabins on their outside islands.

July
The admission points are moved to the bridges between East and West Zoos to allow open access to the whole of West Zoo. The Painted Dogs area becomes a Macdonalds.

September:
The bat cave becomes a multiplex cinema and the Old Rhino House becomes an M&S Outlet.

November:
In the run-up to Christmas the zoo authorities ask anyone who is still coming to see the animals to park well away from the site. Possibly at Cheshire Oaks, which has closed as nobody shops there any longer.

Attendances top five million.

Just read the entire thread and I am personally looking forward to longleat getting the time travelling walrus from 2014. Though I do feel that they lack a little ambition here, if I had the funds to time travel walrus I would get them from much further forward than 2014! :D

Actually it's more of a nightmare.

I am not a fan of the new gift shop or the entrance arrangements.

To put it mildly ..... ;)

Nor I, so much - I always enter via the pedestrian route, which means I have to exit the zoo to visit the elephant house, and the staff at the main entrance don't always allow pass-outs to people exiting when asked. Naturally, this isn't actually a problem for me as I'm a member and so can just get my membership card re-scanned, but it rather cheats non-members if they come across a staff member who is feeling unhelpful.

Colchester Zoo run an exhibition all about the ‘Essex Lion.’ Small improvements are made all over the zoo and the sun bear exhibit gets completed.

SeaLife Birmingham will stop telling visitors that their leopard shark is the only one in captivity, and they can’t breed from her as there are no males available. This will be when they admit that ‘in captivity’ does not necessarily mean ‘in a SeaLife centre’ and that the UK/Europe does have other aquariums and private breeders that have the species.

I may come out with a few more soon, but those two are mere teasers :)

They should do.

Oh, I know they are *meant* to - but last Tuesday when myself and Hel left in order to see the baby elephant, we had some trouble getting the staff member at the gate to be co-operative.

When we visited in October, we didn't even realise that this was the procedure for viewing the elephant house. Just assumed that the elephants were offshow, until we saw people going into their house as we were leaving.

Very amusing ZG...will you be writing the script for a new satirical thread "Have I Got Zoo News For You"?[a popular UK television programme,if you arent British].
