ZooParc de Beauval Zooparc de Beauval news 2023

Various news from Beauval :
  • departure of 1.0 Asian Small-clawed Otter to the Sea Life Benalmadena (Spain) and of 1.0 Asian Small-clawed Otter to Pairi Daiza (Belgium) [source : Beauval Nature newsletter]
  • sadly the female Douc Langur THI-WAÏ passed away recently
  • the White Lioness ANOUCHKA is back on show in the Terre des Lions
  • the transfer of the American Flamingos towards the new South American aviary has begun [seen on the Howtank forum/chat, as well as the 2 previous news]

On the new map the pumas are labelled in the two enclosures where the giant anteaters and white lions were previoulsy.
And the persian leopards seem to have access to the four small enclosures they "shared" before with the pumas.

48!?!?? Surely that is a typo...
Surely not !
The group must be 14 but it is just to highlight that it is too much for the exhibit which is huge but does not fit a such number. It is time for Beauval to slow down for manatee births. All the facilities are full and even if Pairi Daiza will welcome the species in two years it does not need to welcome a lot.

Not opportunities in places like the Paris Zoo, or even dolphinariums as the cetaceans are increasingly phased out or outlawed from European zoos?

News like this makes me sincerely question the apparently extravagant lengths Fuengirola is going to to acquire Florida manatees - totally unnecessary and unhelpful decision.

Sorry, but now I'm totally confused. How many manatees has Beauval at the moment? 48?? OR 4,8 (4 males, 8 females) = 12?? OR 14??

Yes, another stu... decision. But it does not change the problem : Fuengirola is as beautiful as on the small side so even if they change their decision the park will just get 3 or 4 manatees. So the problem will be the same in few years.

48, we are not in Marineland Canada ;)
The group must be 14 actually.

Well, 48 was the number you wrote in your post (#69). And it wasn't easy to recognize the joke when you answer of @Fallax posts with "Surely not!" first (although giving some kind of explanation afterwards) and without any smilies;)

However, thanks for clarifying.

By the way: In a distant future, Zoo Zurich might be interested in manatees as well for their planed Southeast Asia exhibit (no joke, manatees should stand there for dugongs). Afaik also Tierpark Berlin has or had plans to keep manatees again.

I think also to a bunch of marine zoos and aquaria, as the cetaceans are increasingly phased out.
