Zoos Victoria have announced that the mainland population of Eastern Barred Bandicoots have had a conservation status change from 'Extinct in the Wild' to 'Endangered' reflecting the secure populations of these bandicoots within protected areas. Consequently, Zoos Victoria are ending the 30-year breeding programme for the barred bandicoots due to the established populations at island and fenced sites.
