The last item is apparently going to house a Chinese (giant?) salamander....
Now that's a species that would get me to pay London's (fairly) extortionate entry fee and travel costs!

If so, it will be good to have the species back in the UK subsequent to nearly a century of absence
Wasn't there one in the ZSL Aquarium more recently- unless my memory is wrong here, I seem to remember seeing one there circa 1960's or 80's era.- not sure which species though.
Not sure if this has already been posted or not but it was very welcome news to me - I'm at the zoo now and there's at least one Panay Cloud Rat back onshow in the Clore.
(with thanks to the keeper who popped some new food in at just the right time to bring it into view!)
There was a Japanese giant salamander in the London Zoo Aquarium for many years; I believe it died in 1989.
Fantastic newsdid you get any photographs?
Which enclosure are they in?
Ah, same enclosure as they used to be in then![]()

It might well have been longer than that.....
No, the Japanese giant salamander definitely died in 1989; since typing my earlier comment I have checked the relevant ZSL Annual Report and this confirmed that date.
I think Ian is implying the animal was so inactive it might have been dead in the enclosure for some time before being noticed![]()
