ZSL London Zoo ZSL London Zoo News 2016

I believe the pair of golden headed lion tamarins are the mother and daughter (bandit) that used to have free reign in the rainforest . There is new baby mangabey probably about a week old (adjacent to the gorilla territory ). Edward the young sloth is on show albeit mostly well hidden in the far left rainforest enclosure (the enclosure where Prince and Geoff were ocasionally kept in the past).
Looks like some hireable storage lockers have been placed near the Aquarium kiosk.
Oh and some illuminateable animals have appeared presumably to light up Zoo lates.

Thanks for info, I saw the new mangabey baby last week, believe the birth was on Wednesday 25 May. You can spot Edward, if you look towards the back left of his enclosure. I know that many visitors have asked the zoo about lockers in the past, perhaps the zoo have met the demand

Yes I heard from a volunteer that the plan is for Flora and Bandit (the pair of tamarins from the Rainforest) to be introduced to the pair (male and female) formerly kept in the BUGS house...and then the four will be reintroduced to the Rainforest.

Has there Been Any More News About what they are Doing with the Snowdon Aviary or If there is Any New Exhibits/ Species Coming Later in the Year?

I thought someone might like to see a photo of the tree kangaroo even if you can't actually view her. She is beautiful.

Thanks for the photo, I didn't realise that she was as big as this. If she goes on public show, any idea where she might live

I would hope if she does go onshow she would either get an enclosure by the Outback or maybe even the current Alaotra reed lemur enclosure (on the roundhouse)

I can't see where she could go in the Australian outback and surely the "roundhouse" would need a lot of work to make it suitable for the tree kangaroo.

They could build something on the outside of Dragons (since the outdoor paddock is never used by the Komodo dragons anymore) for her, and yes I agree the roundhouse would need a lot of work but it's only the refurb of one enclosure which wouldn't take too long.

So where was your photo taken?

I believe that the picture was taken in the off show area near where the children go for a lesson. It must have been taken by someone who has access to the off show area. It is not possible to see the off show area from the confines of the Rain Forest, therefore visitors have no chance get a glimpse

I reckon it actually is the enclosure she's currently in. I took a trip for my psychology class with my old school a year or two ago to the zoo and went into the education centre in the Rainforest (the No Entry part between the insects and the spider monkeys). At the time there were Alaotra reed lemurs in there, but I remember there clearly being a stone 'pit' in one half of the enclosure. She appears to be standing on the edge of it :)

You are spot on with your comments, behind the scenes, No Entry sign on door. The picture had to be taken by someone who has the key to the door

No, well, they probably don't know if/where she'll be moved. As usual, it depends on so many factors – if she's happy where she is, where/whether other space becomes free, if she gets on with other animals... it would be nice if they replied but I suspect you wouldn't be any the wiser!

Tigers were off show today and I believe tomorrow (wed) as contractors working inside the enclosure. Hard to tell what they are building from what I saw but looks like a platform or shelter for the Tigers under the viewing gallery. Also the pond had been drained.

The African hunting dogs enclosure had a string of temporary additional barriers running all along.

In reply to my Tree Kangaroo email

Unfortunately our Tree Kangaroo is not on show to the public at this moment. This is due to getting used to our Rainforest and interaction with the public.

I would have gone down before the summer holidays, but will now wait until they're over and maybe by then she'll have been revealed.

Nothing yet for 2016, but the previous years reports make interesting reading
