ZSL London Zoo ZSL London Zoo News 2020

Hey everyone I have recently (and by recent I mean yesterday) visited London zoo for their lodge experience so I spent two days at London zoo as it was my first time visiting the zoo and wanted to see what it was like as its world famous with a lot of history.
First of all the lodge experience was brilliant and very informative I saw a lot of animals animals during the tours such as the male cape porcupine whose name is Henning which was fun and was also told by one of the keepers that a female porcupine had joined the zoo a couple of weeks ago so that they can get breed the two of them. Also on the tour was a talk about the lions at the zoo which was interesting and then discussing about the old penguin pool and then we went to the nocturnal house which was great as the pottos were active specially seeming it was daytime in their exhibit but nonetheless still very cool to see.

Then it was dinner which was good but the name of the dinner I forgot what its called but its just chicken with some vegetables oh my view was of the Mappin terraces so that was nice. After dinner we went to the bugs house and had 15 minutes just to roam around and see whatever we wanted then after that we went into the caisson pavilion for a backstage look which was cool then then we went to bed.

The next day we we went on the final tour which was started by feeding the penguins which was fun then we went to see the colobus monkeys which will be moving to the snowden aviary we then went to see the komodo dragon and the giant tortoises which will be moving into a new enclosure which will be on the field next to the display field.

Anyway the zoo was really good in my opinion I think London zoo is way better then Bristol zoo which is sadly closing down but anyway that's my thoughts on the experience

The new Sumatran tigress at London Zoo will be Gasha from Ree Park. This is the female Asim has previously sired 4 litters with, although not all of those cubs are still around.
Wonder why bringing back a previous mate for Asim, as didn’t they want to create a new bloodline? Or I wonder if they don’t think Asim would accept another mate. So stick to what he knows, and draw In the money with tiger Cubs ,

In the Sumatran Tigers in Europe thread, @Nisha noted that Ree Park plan on going out of Sumatran Tigers for the forseeable future, which means rehoming their three females (Gasha and her two daughters fathered by Asim). It would make sense for ZSL London to take on Gasha, what with ZSL London having room for a female, and knowing that female gets along with what has shown himself to be a troublesome tiger. Whether they will have a breeding recommendation will have to be seen as time goes on.

Ree Park - Female, Gasha (B2011 at Praha) is leaving next week to move to London. At London she will be reunited with former mate, Asim

In the same trip, Carrie and Padme (born January 2019 to Gasha and Asim) will go to Paington.

There is no mention of the male cub from the 2019 litter (Chewie) so his fate is unconfirmed at the moment.
Ree Park will go out of Sumatran Tiger's for the immediate future following these moves

Combination of factors probably but safety will be uppermost in their minds I'm sure, they can't risk another tragedy like Melati, so (hopefully) re-uniting him with a former partner he's compatible with is a good outcome. They will not necessarily breed from them.

Apart from her cubs is Gasha well represented? As has been pointed out she could just be brought in as a companion and not be used for breeding in the immediate future.
ZSL won't want another repeat of the Melatai incident so Gasha could be the best solution for time being.

She's had four litters with Asim - I'm unsure how many of them are still surviving or how many have reproduced (I'm sure @Nisha could help with that), but I remember the first litter was triplets, second was twins, and third and fourth were also triplets.

I did a list of their offspring on the previous page of this thread. They currently have 1.4 surviving offspring (including Carrie and Padme who are leaving for Paignton tomorrow) across Europe
