ZSL London Zoo ZSL London Zoo News 2022

Perhaps they'll do as the lemur exhibit does at Whipsnade, and only allow people onto the walkway at certain times with a keeper present? Not surprising that an animal of their nature wouldn't be dissuaded by a few metre gap of a jump to the walkway.
I believe that the idea is too have 2 members of zoo staff on the walkway to monitor the colobus and the visitors. There will be a control over the number of visitors allowed into the walkway.

That makes good sense

Does anyone know what will be going where the colobus is? Or will it be left empty for a while for a revamp

The macaques are moving to that vacant area. At the moment the male is in one section and in due course the 2 females will move from their existing home

What’s the maximum footfall the Snowdon can hold? From memory, it could only cope with single lane/one way traffic at the best of times. The staff will have a field day with double buggies! I’d be interested to know if they’ve changed the entrance system as it was previously a push-button door with a chain link type entrance curtain.

They might do as say Cwp do in the Madagascar area and stop buggies / prams etc from entering - the planning permission originally included a rain covered pram storage area

Sorry for the endless questions but what will be going where the macaques were?

Talking to staff today there will be a limit to the numbers of visitors allowed into the walk through at any given time. However, no actual number was mentioned. Entry and exit doors are by pushing a green button to release the gates
Buggies will not be allowed into the walk through

Quite correct about official opening date but the zoo has allowed some visitors access to the walkway, this was the case last Friday

Yep, I believe they have allowed members to have a member preview.

London zoo breeds endangered Banggai cardinalfish

Banggai cardinalfish threats

In the wild, Banggai cardinalfish numbers have plummeted. Their surging popularity in the aquarium hobby sparked a goldrush in overharvesting, with fish bombs made from cyanide, fertilisers and phosphorus used to stun and catch as many as possible. The precariousness of the Banggai cardinal population is confounded by their small native range in Indonesia of 5,500km2, around the size of Venice! As a result, their numbers in the wild has decreased by more than 80%. This makes every new arrival vital to establish a back-up population, but breeding Banggai cardinals is tricky.

Gorilla Territory outside area is undergoing maintenance , most obviously to its electric fencing. So gorillas only on show inside.

The Sulawesi Crested Macaques have swapped over . So yesterday the 2 females were in part of the the former colobus area whereas the male has swapped back to their old area.

A female azure damselfish Chrysiptera hemicyanea at ZSL London has laid eggs and is currently guarding them. Once they are ready to hatch, the eggs will be sent to Bangor University so that the fry can be reared.

This is part of the SNAP (SustaiNable Aquariums Project), which has ZSL, Bangor University, The Deep and Sea Life as its partners - the aim being to advance breeding success of marine reef fish and so reduce the need to bring in wild-caught fish.

Information comes from the ZSL (just ZSL, not ZSL London) Facebook page - I looked up the 2022 stocklist and found that London was home to five individuals on January 1st.
