ZSL Whipsnade Zoo ZSL Whipsnade Zoo News 2024

With or without Monkey Forest, Whipsnade is phenomenal and if you get the chance to visit then it is unskippable. For me, it is easily the second best zoo in the country (behind Chester, of course), although my strong sentimental connection certainly plays a role in that statement.
Thank you. I definitely hope/intend to stop at Whipsinade earlier in the week in either case! Some of the species in this new exhibit are of high interest to me though so checking out the new exhibit may be worth it if I can squeeze it in.

For anyone wanting to attend a preview of the monkey forest as Sparkes12 mentioned above you can do with your gold membership or if you’re a patron, or fellow.

6 tickets can be booked (all 6 have to be in one of the qualifying groups) and it runs from 18-24 March with 4 - 5 times slots per day. It’s free.

Good availability showing up at the moment particularly on the week days, if anyone is thinking of going along.

It records 3:1 in Whipsnade in 2024 where London recorded 1:5 in 2023 who were the ones who were going to move - so a mix change etc but as the stock list was done in Jan there may also be more than that. Good to see.

The 3.1 are I believe the ones from Jersey. + I think about 4(?) from London. But if additional ones have also come from Chester & Dudley, the total will now be higher.

A quick question, as I’m not great around groups of people I tend to avoid places like the butterfly house etc which is a pity. Am I right in thinking that it now also has Victoria crowned pigeon in it? Along with the partridges that were in there?

I believe there were a pair in there when I visited in April last year, and the stocklist seems to confirm this. I may be misremembering seeing them as I can't find any photos and I've been in at least 3 similar exhibits with them since, but they definitely have 1.1 currently.

It would be great if ZSL introduced monthly quiet mornings or something similar. I would imagine they'd be much appreciated by a lot of people, especially with how Base Camp is permen heaving.

I believe they do at certain times, I think when it’s autism awareness week/month they do something but I definitely prefer visiting zoos in the afternoon.

Maybe next time I’m up there I’ll give the butterfly house a go
