The area that is designated for "gorillas" in the masterplan is another ~1.5 hectares of undeveloped zoo land located above the "zebu" area and below the walkway to Masoala. On the map the "zebu" area appears larger than the elephant outdoors. It is hard to imagine that this will indeed 'only' be used for cattle. Perhaps it is not yet clear how the zoo wants to use this land (black rhino, an additional aviary, carnivores, primates, ...?) which may depend on available funding and projected costs of the "Lewa" project. Or they are planning a "low level" development to keep this land as a strategic reserve for future developments beyond the 2030 masterplan (hippo, shoebill, crocodile, a vivarium on an African theme, a wetlands area, a desert area, ...?).
