That is very nice to know. I have never been to the nature reserve. Is it worth visiting?
Sounds like the Twycross one! Which in my experience is a waste of spaceIt's free, so there's nothing to lose by going to see it (which I suppose in itself makes it 'worth visiting' if you're at the zoo), although I would agree with bongorob that one doesn't tend to see a great deal there.
Looking at some instagram photos it looks as if the Victoria Crowned pigeon are nesting again with an egg in Tropical realm, I hope this year it may hatch after the events of last year where people where absolute idiots!
People were throwing stuff at the egg, the pair nested 3 times and with no success because of that. What happened?
Are they? I havent seen any horse trailer in the malayan tapirs enclosure...Staff are training the Malaysian Tapirs to enter a horse box in preparation for the move.

I cannot believe what I am reading!?!?
Believe it!I knew people would do *stupid* things, but willful destruction of the thing you just paid quite a lot of money to see!? It doesn't make sense on any level! I didn't realise any zoo would have to deal with that kind of thing.
Just the other week while at Hamerton, while I was leaving I heard keepers saying that some kids were throwing small stones at the lemurs near the exit. I think the family involved were just ahead of me in the car park, as I could hear them ranting and cursing the staff.I knew people would do *stupid* things, but willful destruction of the thing you just paid quite a lot of money to see!? I must admit after my last few visits it doesn't surprise me to hear of this sort of behaviour at Chester, as I have witnessed staff leaving the tropical realm and other indoor exhibits when it gets a little crowded and loud only to stand outside the building.
I witnessed some children trying to grab the birds in the tropical realm and informed a member of staff standing outside the building only to be greeted with a smile and then they walked away.
More experienced staff are required for these area's I would go as far as saying even first aider's should be inside the buildings but the staff should be more visible at all times.

I don't see many bird keepers now, but I'd say the people you spoke to were interns and not keepers. All the keepers I know would take a report of animal harrassment very seriously.
