Movie review rant 2018

The movie may be called Shazam, but the character is Captain Marvel.
Has anyone seen Waterworld? I recently watched it with a friend (it's on netflix) and we just couldn't stop laughing! We were like "what the *** is happening?!" every ten minutes or so. I don't think it was meant to be funny, but it certainly was. It's like a bad Western but on the ocean, where not just fresh water but also dirt is almost unobtainable, and it includes a whole lot of impossibilities. I definately recommend it though, just don't take it too serious.

No, it's not. The character was once named Captain Marvel but DC changed the name due to rights issues. The character hasn't been marketing as Captain Marvel since the 50's.

Yeah I think they still referred to him within the pages as Captain Marvel until more recently, but his current official name (and legal marketing name) is Shazam.
To answer your original question, since he's been marketing as Shazam for so long I highly doubt 99% of movie goers will even realize the naming issue.

Just curious, what exactly was the issue that caused DC to change Captain Marvel's name to Shazam? Obviously Marvel has their own Captain Marvel, but DC's came first. So why did DC have to change the name?
I'm not entirely sure but I'm pretty sure the name Captain Marvel was created as a bit of a jab at Marvel Comics at the time.

Here’s an upcoming movie that I’ve been waiting for a new trailer for since July: it’s Godzilla: King of The Monsters! This is the movie that I’m looking forward to the most next year(probably even more so than Avengers).
Who else is excited? Seriously, I’m more excited for this than Captain Marvel.

I liked this movie. Parts of it where very confusing, and many of the characters (Nicholas Flamael, Nagini, Prof. McGonagall) seem to there for no reason (also, shouldn't McGonagall not be born yet?). However, the movie was action filled, and I really like Newt Scamander. I fell like I can't rate this movie, because even though much of it is confusing, it will be presumably cleared up in the next three parts.

This movie was filled with so many hilarious jokes and surprising cameos (even Stan Lee gets a cameo!). I know a lot of people didn't see this movie because they didn't like the show, but I assure you, this is better than the show.

So I took my daughter to watch this earlier and all I can say is WOW! It is a brilliant movie in every way, and it's not just for nerds either but has enough geek-out moments to keep even the most hardcore comic book fan occupied.
The story centres around Miles Morales and his take on the titular hero but features several other Spider-Man incarnations as well, my personal favourite being Spider-Man Noir, played by Nicolas Cage. Being a noir character means he can only see in black and white, which leads to my favourite scene in the movie!
But other Spider-Persons include Peter Porker aka Spider-Ham; Peni Parker and her robot, who ar both drawn anime style, and fan favourites Peter Parker (x2) and Spider-Gwen. All have their own unique styles, and in some cases animation, and all bring something different to the table. The animation is superb all round as well, truly gives the sense of reading a comic.
Don't want to say anymore about the plot but I will recommend this to anyone, regardless of age or interest in the character. A solid 9 out of 10.

Men In Black International trailer...
It's got that guy I like from Thor: Ragnarok and that girl I like from Thor: Ragnarok. Which makes it a bit weird, like Thor and the Valkyrie are just stuck in some alternative reality. I want to like it but it looks silly, and also it looks nowhere near as good as the original Men In Black.

I agree that having two Marvel stars in another (Marvel property) movie is really odd, especially considering Ragnarok is still fresh in most peoples memories, and it does look pretty lousy even when compared to MIB3.
Liam Neeson is also in it, and he won't be killing anyone in most scenes! Ding...

The character was created in 1939 by C. C. Beck and Bill Parker for the debut issue of Flash Comics, under the name of Captain Thunder - this was published by Fawcett Publications. However, this issue was an "ashcan copy" - with the smallest number of copies printed to qualify for a trademark, and with no intention of distribution. It emerged that both "Flash Comics" and "Captain Thunder" were already trademarks, so both were renamed for the second issue (the first to be widely published) to Whiz Comics and Captain Marvellous respectively; the latter was changed to Captain Marvel during the editing process. So the name was unrelated to Marvel Comics (which coincidentally also started in 1939, although it did not go by that name until 1961) and the character was unconnected at the time to DC Comics (known at the time as Detective Comics and later National Comics, but I'll refer to it by the present name from here onwards).
In 1941, DC Comics started a series of legal actions against Fawcett Publications, alleging that the character of Captain Marvel was a copyright violation of Superman, which would continue on-and-off for the following decade with legal decisions being made in favour of both parties at various junctures; the ultimate ruling in 1953 was that the character himself was not in violation of the Superman trademark, but many of the connected stories and plot details were. Due to a drastic fall in sales during WWII and the falling popularity of superhero comics, Fawcett Publications chose to settle with DC out of court, shut down all comic production and Captain Marvel ceased to exist as a comic book trademark, although the intellectual property of the character himself remained with Fawcett.
In 1972, subsequent to the Silver Age revival in popularity for superhero comics, DC Comics sought out opportunities for new comic lines and characters and licenced the character rights for Captain Marvel from Fawcett Publications. However, the comic book trademark "Captain Marvel" was by now once again active - the Marvel Comics character having been created in 1967 - and as such the resulting DC comic book was unable to carry this title. Instead, the title of Shazam! was selected. Due to the fact that DC Comics had to tread carefully around the trademark, with all merchandise only giving the name of the comic and not the character, over time the character himself became tied in the public mind with the name Shazam.... with the end result being that in 2012 DC Comics officially renamed the character to Shazam
I'm refusing to watch any of the trailers so I go in as spoiler-free as possible, but yes I am extremely excited. The Monsterverse may only have two films in it so far (soon to be three with King of Monster) but it's still my second favorite film franchise
I just watched it... It looks kind of exciting but ultimately also the sort of movie which would be forgotten the moment you leave the cinema. Also trying way too hard to be quippy, there's bad acting, dodgy CGI... I don't think it will fair well.
I've not seen the original Hellboy movies but the trailer looked fun to me. I like the tone they're going with and Hellboy has some good jokes but I'm split on whether I think it'll be any good. Also that hand looks really, really bad.
Apart from the hand comment I would say the same for the new Men in Black International trailer @Chlidonias, though this time I have seen the previous three MIB movies (and own them).

I'm not a great fan of Hellboy - the Ron Pearlman movies are good but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch them. But the new version looks really lame in comparison.
