You don't have to buy it, no-one is forcing you...

Interestingly released same day as update 1.4. Despite intertwining it looks like they're going to make us shell out another $10 for the DLC. I wish they'd release more than 5 animals a pack to make the money better spent. But the more packs they create the more they can get out of us...

I'd complain about it - since we didn't really have to pay for any animals in ZT2 due to all the mods - but I know I'll buy anything PZ makes.

No, it's all up to you. But really the base roster leaves a lot to be desired.

Mod designers can't charge for the mods, it becomes copyright infringement if they do because then they're making money off the game.

Don't buy it, I have only one of the DLC packs as it was a gift.

I shall wait till they are half price as I think its more reasonable price for the limited animals. Although this one is the first been really excited for as it really changes how you build.

I should perhaps note in my complaining about the DLC prices that I waited til they were on sale. I bought the base game and 3 DLCs together for around 2/3rds the normal price total since i decided it was reasonable enough.

Looking at the announcement again, interesting they say "iconic creatures". Are any of the five choices truly iconic though?
Iconic would be Emperor Penguin, California Sealion, American or European River Otter, American Alligator, and perhaps Electric Eel.

King Penguin is still overshadowed by Emperor in popularity, Gray Seal exists mostly as rescues and primarily in Europe (compared to the widespread and classic California Sealion and Harbor Seal), Giant Otter is relatively sparse compared to the two river otters, Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman is tiny and probably better suited for a terrarium than a habitat (American Alligator, Chinese Alligator, or even Dwarf Crocodile is more classic). Diamondback Terrapin is nice to get a small turtle, but iconic I think not. A pond turtle or even a fish such as Electric Eel would perhaps be more 'iconic'.

I'm not unhappy with the choices (Though I would have preferred a different crocodilian), but I just find that 'iconic' phrase a bit ill-suited. What do you guys think?

Just seen on Twitter that the first image of the diamondback terrapin has been released. I wonder if they will remain immobile like other terrarium animals or if they will swim while in the water.

From the photo it looks like they may actually be swimmers, but we may have to wait and see. Hopefully they'll actually swim and move around.

I gotta find some tutorials for making nicer looking exhibits. I have the basics down but I'm struggling to make something that looks prettier. I have the Arctic Pack and I'd love to better utilize the architecture available in that!

And I really want to create a building with full habitats instead of just the small exhibits. I'm working on an Americas zoo in Sandbox mode, just to practice new exhibit styles, and I'm getting impatient for the Cuvier's Dwarf Caimen cause I really want another habitat reptile for the Herpetarium building. A small species like that would be great to test with.

Me, too. I thought if they were going to add a turtle it would be an Alligator Snapping Turtle. They would be so much easier to animate, because they normally just chill in one spot, while Diamondback Terrapins are very active.

That's a fair point. They're a bit too big for an exhibit, but a bit to small to be a habitat animal. Another good choice would be a Mata Mata. Also would be very easy to animate.

Worth noting that the Green and Lesser Antillean Iguanas are exhibit animals despite being quite large and relatively active. Realistically the two iguanas are pretty close in size to the Nile Monitor and the Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman, both of which are habitat animals. The snapping turtle is quite lazy and they're often kept in smaller exhibits because of that. I'm not sure why they wouldn't go with it.

I have to confess I hate the terrarium habitats... The whole game is so free for the player to do whatever he wants, and they come with these silly cubicles... I would really like to be able to build custom habitats for all these animals that they limited...

Honestly while the terrapin might not be iconic at all, I'm just glad that we have a swimming turtle. On the plus side, it'll seemingly be a lot more active than say a matamata or snapper, which is nice because Frontier would probably just stick to the usual formula of "sits in one place and moves when you're not looking" with the other turtles instead of being more ambitious like it is right now.
