Looking at the announcement again, interesting they say "iconic creatures". Are any of the five choices truly iconic though?
Iconic would be Emperor Penguin, California Sealion, American or European River Otter, American Alligator, and perhaps Electric Eel.
King Penguin is still overshadowed by Emperor in popularity, Gray Seal exists mostly as rescues and primarily in Europe (compared to the widespread and classic California Sealion and Harbor Seal), Giant Otter is relatively sparse compared to the two river otters, Cuvier's Dwarf Caiman is tiny and probably better suited for a terrarium than a habitat (American Alligator, Chinese Alligator, or even Dwarf Crocodile is more classic). Diamondback Terrapin is nice to get a small turtle, but iconic I think not. A pond turtle or even a fish such as Electric Eel would perhaps be more 'iconic'.
I'm not unhappy with the choices (Though I would have preferred a different crocodilian), but I just find that 'iconic' phrase a bit ill-suited. What do you guys think?
