Are These in Captivity? #2

Are there any pure Kodiak bears outside of Alaska? (Other than the individual at orsa björnpark in Sweden). I’m a bit suspicious of what gets labelled ‘Kodiak bear’ considering so many other impure subspecies get labelled incorrectly rather often (like Bengal tigers, which are all impure in Europe)

Well, there are no other bears in Europe that are labelled as Kodiak bears (except for the one in Sweden), so I'd say none are in Europe or even in Russia as ZTL includes Russia.
Where did you see bears labelled as Kodiak ? Curious about the Bengals, in the US there might be a few roadside zoos calling their zoomix tigers Bengals but I've never seen any in Europe.

There are several pure Kodiaks outside of Alaska, generally it's hard for the Alaska Department of Fish and Wildlife to find new homes for Kodiaks when it's necessary, but as recently as 2015 three orphaned Kodiak cubs (true Kodiaks from the island) were saved by the ADFW and transported to two willing zoos that fit the standards of care that the ADFW had set forth. Two of those cubs went to Wildwood Zoo in Wisconsin and one went to I believe the Toledo Zoo in Ohio

Thanks:), I believe ZOOM erlebniswelt’s bears are labelled as kodiak judging from the gallery (I’ve never been myself so couldn’t confirm).

In the uk there are many zoos that label white zoomix tigers and the like as ‘Bengal tiger’, usually without any information of cross-breeding and such:rolleyes:
