Who is Asha's intended mate at Rum Creek, do you know his name? My guess is Bhramputra as he was born in India and despite having sired a number of calves should still be quite valuable for the population. But there are a couple other bulls at Rum Creek that could also be paired up with her.
I dont know his name but he is a 6 year old bull born at Rum Creek. He is to be paired with 5 females. He's not garbage but Vishnu does offer better genetics.
This is extremely unfortunate and I fear the news because TZ's exhibit is my favorite for Indians! I'm so glad I filmed a lot during my 2017 visit. What is the timeline for the rhinos to leave? I'd like to see them, especially Vishnu one more time.
You said "we are phasing out our Indian Rhinos". Does the "we" imply you work there? I miss TZ and wish I was closer so I could see it again. I loved the Indo-Malaya Pavilion as well. I wonder what the old Orangutan exhibit will be converted into. Also, thank goodness that show Zoo Diaries existed. It has footage of Patrick, Indira, and their offspring. I wish it was stil lavailible to watch online, it was previously available on Gaia TV (circa 2012). My favorite episode is the one where Patrick goes crazy and tries to climb over the wall to get to Indira.
There is no timeline for their ultimate departure. Asha is the only one placed. I dont think there would be much need to get rid of them that fast. The zoo still isnt finished the orang outdoor exhibit and the next major project on the table is the front entrance which should take several years if not longer. I cant see the zoo having the budget to do much with the rhino habitat if they were gone. I doubt the gaur would return. The babirusa are too small to hold that much space. And anything else they bring in would need significant modifications because the rhino replacement will definitely be smaller than them. Until the master plan is done no way to even guess.
I dont work at the zoo. I was using the royal we. Its my zoo so I always say we when they are up to something. Sorry for confusing you and making you think I have some crazy insider knowledge. Oh if only... but then the zoo might not allow me to be on zoochat. I know there were a few Toronto employees on the site before the elephants left and increasingly they felt it was better to not post then risk their jobs. Totally understandable. Just a pity thats the way the zoo made them feel.
The indoor orang habitat is remaining unchanged since 1974. They need an indoor space most of the year. It will get done eventually...
Lol I know that zoo diaries episode well. I remember seeing him try in person at one point too. He was determined when he had the chance he wanted to take it. The zoo was looking for a production company this year or maybe last year to see if they could revive Zoo Diaries. I have heard nothing about it since so I am thinking it probably didnt pan out sadly.
