Chester Zoo Chester Zoo News 2022

Just out of interest (I havent visited here for 12 years) how close will Grasslands be to the Black rhinos?

The new Grasslands and aviaries will be right next to the Black Rhino paddocks, so all the large paddocks and some aviaries will be flattened and work should begin soon.

Tsavo aviary is staying so is the larger aviary next to it. The Wild Dog and Hyrax enclosures will also be staying as is. It is just the large paddocks which will be flattened and work should begin very soon.

Looking at the plans for this, there will be new large paddocks for Giraffe, Zebra, Antelope and Ostrich but also some smaller new enclosures for Dik-Dik, Aardvark, Meerkats, maybe Porcupines and Bat-eared Fox too (but not 100% on those 2). There should also be new aviaries for Vultures and smaller aviaries for Lovebirds and Owls. Also included is a new restaurant and an indoor walkthrough area for reptiles etc.

Will probably stay in the off show area until they start to redevope the old giraffe paddock/tropical house ect I would say, but that could be many years away, unless they do it in stages rather than 1 big development.

Three species of wild bat are found in the zoo. Soprano Pipistrelle, Brown Long-eared and Daubenton's.

That seems an extremely limited number!

Surely they have Common Pipistrelle and Noctule? I'd also expect at least one other Myotis bat - probably Whiskered.

I thought that as well Shavington Zoo, I'm just posting what the sign says. A small nature reserve in Stoke including a lake has about 8 species of bat. I would think the zoo has more than 3 species of wild bat.

Fantastic news that's now baby number 3 to beni and asha I had my suspicions that asha was pregnant on a visit from a few months back
