Recently 3 female South African Nile crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus cowiei) arrived from La Ferme aux Crocodiles.

Earlier this month 2 leucistic Monocled cobra (Naja kaouthia) arrived at the zoo.

Ten days ago 3 Gidgee skinks (Egernia stokesii) hatched!

A few days ago a femaleZebra shark (Stegostoma fasciatum) arrived from Aquarium Wilhelmshaven.

Tierpark Hagenbeck started keeping Chinese crocodile lizards 2017 and already in the first year the species was bred. 2018 the complete enclosure was redecorated and suplied with a waterfall with running water and a climate-instalation. That this was the right decision becomes clear when we know that the species was bred succesful already for the 8th time with the latest young born earlier this year. Some of the Hamburg-bred animals have recently send to Antwerp Zoo to bring-in some new blood into the group kept at that zoo :).

At the start of this year female North chinese leopard (Panthera pardus japonensis) Sunny arrived from Tierpark Gotha. She has already reased multiple young, so hopefully she will breed with the male in Hamburg, who was imported from South-Korea.

Schweren Herzens trennt sich der Tierpark von seinem erfahrenen Zuchtweibchen, aber da umfassende Umbaumaßnahmen anstehen, reicht der vorhandene Platz derzeit nur für einen Leoparden. Als Zuchtbuchkoordinator entschied Dr. Michael Flügger, Zootierarzt im Tierpark Hagenbeck, dass Sunny nach Hamburg kommen durfte. „Die Zucht mit unserem genetisch besonders wertvollen Kater Bumi, der zur Blutauffrischung innerhalb des Europäischen Zuchtprogramms extra aus Korea importiert wurde, besitzt oberste Priorität. Und da unser Weibchen Naoli bisher nicht für Nachwuchs gesorgt hat, war es eine glückliche Fügung, dass Sunny ein neues Zuhause brauchte“, erklärt Flügger. Sunny ist perfekt für die Zucht geeignet. Sie hatte bereits vier Würfe und hat sich als liebevolle Mutter erwiesen, die sich sehr aufmerksam um ihren Nachwuchs kümmert. Nach der Ankunft im Tierpark Hagenbeck Mitte Januar durfte Sunny ihre neue Umgebung ganz in Ruhe kennenlernen. Erst kam sie für ein paar Tage allein in das kleine Gehege, wo sie die ungewohnten Gerüche und Geräusche von ihren Artgenossen Naoli und Bumi wahrnehmen konnte. Im Anschluss durfte Sunny das große Gehege inspizieren ️‍♀️, um mögliche Verstecke zu finden. „Erst wenn sich die Raubkatze in ihrer neuen Umgebung sicher fühlt, werden wir sie mit unserem Kater Bumi zusammenführen“, sagt Dr. Michael Flügger. She did!
On the 5th of October 3 North chinese leopards (Panthera pardus japonensis) were born!

When I visited the park in 2022 most birds were off-show, and both the bird house and the eismeer bird enclosures were closed, because of the bird flu.
I'm planning on visiting again next week, and want to make sure the bird house and eismeer is 100% open, has anyone here been visiting recently and know the situation?

Both were open a few weeks ago
 
Does anyone have any tips on seeing the large flying fox in the Tropenhalle?
