Mammals in UK Collections

Well spotted Sand Cat. I forgot to put the harvest mice down.

ISIS shows beavers at

Drusillas, Highland WLP and Birmingham (American)

Curraghs, Broxbourne, Martin Mere, Edinburgh, Herne Bay and Highland Wildlife Park (European)

birmingham (canon hill park) no longer keep beavers they've replaced them with short clawed otters, although there was a really old small plaque next to their house concerning the beavers (it may of been their donation to the park but i can't remember)

Thanks for all your hard work and research , gentle lemur , hope you are having a rest now !!!!!!

Re post 20 from bongorob , the only African spot-necked otter in the UK that I am aware of was one at the Otter Trust , Earsham , many years ago , I remember seeing it . I assume it is long dead , indeed the Otter Trust has closed its Centres having achieved its aim of helping to re-establish otters in England . Who says that re-introduction of captive-bred carnivores is not worth the effort .

I hope there are some more spot-necked otters out there .

Afer doing two easy ones (rodents and cats), I thought I'd better pick a more difficult subject in case other posters accuse me of being work shy. So here is a list of bats.

Egyptian Fruit Bat
Little Red Fruit Bat
Indian Fruit Bat
Livingstone's Fruit Bat
Rodrigues Fruit Bat
Straw-coloured Fruit Bat
Seba's Short-tailed Fruit Bat

Also:
Hartmann's mountain zebra
Onager

Grant's is the same as the Chapman's. (I think, though this is going by Marwell's claims of keeping all the zebra species')

Chapman's and Grant's are both subspecies of the common zebra. colchester and Manor House keep another subspecies, the Damara Zebra.

Wild Cattle species

Cape buffalo
congo/dwarf forest buffalo
Wild asian water buffalo
Domestic asian water buffalo
Lowland anoa
American bison
European bison
Yak
Banteng
Gaur (if whipsnade still have them)
