Indian rhino in Europe

Another new holder of the Indian rhino will soon follow. The 14-year-old male Manas will move from Zoo Wroclaw to Cordoba Zoo in Spain in the coming days. There, he will later be joined by a female.

Manas has now arrived at Cordoba. Wroclaw will soon receive male, Jakub from Warsaw as a new mate for Marushka. Female Kiran (born 2021) is due to leave (for an as yet unspecified zoo) later this year

Kiran born in Wrocław in 2021, left the zoo today and went to Zoo de La Fleche. Interestingly, male waiting for her also was born in Poland (Byś from Zoo Warszawa, second Indian rhino born in Poland).

In the Cerza thread I read this: "Albrecht, male greater one-horned rhino born in 1999 in Nuremberg died last winter. He had dental problems that affected his ability to feed. In view of the worsening of his health, the zoo decided to euthanize him. With female Winona they had 1.3 calves. The last calf, a female, will stay there and the plan is to bring a new male to form a new breeding pair (Winona is now old and has health problems)."

The 36-year-old female Narayani is also moving from Eindhoven Zoo to another zoo later this year. Soon, Eindhoven zoo will then get a young pair of Indian rhinos, with the hope of welcoming a calf in a few years.

Will be interesting to know to which Zoo the non-breeding female Narayani will be transferred out to.

8-year-old Indian rhino male Qabid at Edinburgh Zoo will move to another zoo in November. It hasn't been announced which zoo that is. The zoo hopes to welcome two new males in January 2025.

Speculative though it may be ..., it could well be that male Qabid will be transferred up Continent to the facility that recently and to do will sent off its Indian rhinos elsewhere....
