I must have given off the wrong impression because I had a great visit! I was just noting things I missed because of my own stupidity. As for World of Birds, I looked forward to returning and seeing it all. Also, I now know areas/animals I need to be on the lookout for when I return.
You just had too much of a very good thing

Not sure if this has been mentioned but does anyone know what happened to the 2 big nile crocs inside Madagascar and replaced with 3-4 smaller ones?
The zoo actually got a few Madagascan Nile crocodiles as it was talked about in the news thread a year ago, but as for the 2 big ones I don't know what happened to them
Madagascar! now has a group of young Madagascar Nile Crocodiles (Crocodylus niloticus madagascariensis), if you accept the subspecies.

Interesting. Any further information relating to all their Malagasy Nile crocs. What specific goals for their relevante to the NY Bronx Zoo?

Ok just got back from the zoo and the second floor was amazing but here were the few things i notice on the trip
- I saw the prop male Andean cock of the rock birds on exhibit so hopefully we see eggs soon
- it also appears that elegant crested tinamou are in the finch exhibit on first floor of world of birds, (they might have been there before and i just never noticed)
- on the wild Asia monorail it appears that there have been some births as i think i saw a baby Indian hog deer and other deer species babies but take what i said with a grain of salt as i'm not too sure
- also how many tufted deer does the zoo have

The most recent USDA inspection reports lists a Geoffroy's tamarin and a lowland paca. Does anyone know if this is accurate?

Updates and highlights from yesterday's visit:
  • Feathertail gliders were off exhibit
  • Coquerel's sifakas were off exhibit
  • The capercaillie aviary has black netting over the glass, as a number of birds there are nesting
  • The scarlet ibis chicks are reaching full size
  • The reptile house nursery had baby baja blue rock lizards, a sulawesi forest turtle, radiates tortoises, a brongersma's pit viper, and a mangshan pit viper on display
  • The new female sengi from Philadelphia has been introduced to the male, there is some cardboard on a few of the windows for privacy's sake
  • A snake made it into one of the enclosures in the Congo, but was quickly caught and evicted
  • The enclosures on the outside of the mouse house are having work done
  • There are a few young zebra mice in the mouse house
  • The pheasant aviary are all being worked on
  • The black faced ibis seem to be nesting
  • A spider tortoise was flipped over and struggling in the water dish for a while, but managed to flip itself back after a while
  • The ring tailed lemurs seemed to be off exhibit
  • A baby Chinese alligator was on display, as was a baby komodo dragon
  • The peacocks seem to be in mating season
  • The spider tortoises are in mating season
Questions:
  • I saw a small enclosure on the side of the last large enclosure on the monorail. It was fenced in and had a climbing structure. Is this for the peacocks?

I did not see anything regarding either of these during my visit.

Did you happen to ask for the name of this female sengi during your visit? If not, then I do wonder who exactly moved from Philadelphia? I ask because, until this recent transfer, the latter facility only had three females.

I'm afraid I did not get the name of the new female.

@MikeG do you think that “Cindy” might’ve been a new female whose birth went unreported; or perhaps, did Philadelphia rename an already-named sengi like Drita or Harriet?

* The reason I didn't see the Amur leopard exhibit in Jungle World last month was because the front is boarded up and a sign says the exhibit is closed.
* A zookeeper told me the Matschie's tree kangaroo joey has just started to open its eyes. I could see it moving inside its mother's pouch. They haven't seen it emerge yet, but expect a limb to pop out of the opening very soon.
* There was a Victoria crowned pigeon mother and chick in the Malayan tapir exhibit.
* As noted above, the Coquerel's sifakas were off exhibit. However, I did see the ring tailed lemur, red ruffed lemur, and brown collared lemur on exhibit in Madagascar.
* I was able to tour all of World of Birds today and it has become one of my favorite zoo bird houses.
* I discovered going down the wrong path and ending up at the Asia parking lot, you can see the top of the red panda exhibit from the Asia monorail from there.
