On August 7th, the zoo announced that the new African lion exhibit will open in November.

On August 31st, the zoo announced they rehabilitated and released a green sea turtle back into the wild.

Dory was found floating and unable to dive in the Indian River Lagoon south of Eau Gallie Causeway and brought to us by the Sea Turtle Preservation Society - thank you! This little green received a full veterinary exam and supportive care including blood work, a CT scan , radiographs, ultrasound, antibiotics, GI motility medication, antiparasitic medication and nutritional support. On September 7th, the zoo announced they rehabilitated and released another green sea turtle as well as a loggerhead sea turtle back into the wild.

On September 9th, the zoo announced they moved 2 American alligators Martha and Toothless off display due to the bridge in Wild Florida undergoing repairs. The alligators will be back on exhibit later in September.

This summer has been busy with rehabilitating orphaned Florida black bear cubs, and Harry, named by the Zoo’s own animal care team for her arrival on the birthday of children’s book hero Harry Potter, was the sixth cub to come to us for care this year. Found wandering alone by Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission, Harry came to us severely underweight at 12 pounds. Harry has been transferred to an FWC facility so that later can be released back into the wild.

On October 3rd, the zoo announced that 81 Florida grasshopper sparrows hatched in 2024.
