It’s an amazing roster but the animals together make it a horrible one if you get what I’m saying.
Yep, I think this is going to be one of those animals that becomes an absolute staple for the playerbase. I remember people saying similar things about the spectacled caiman a couple years back and now I've heard from many players it is their go-to crocodilian due to it not being too big or too small! In the case of the tortoise, its just such a versatile animal I'm really glad to have it here. The tortoise is one of those odd animals that I'm not crazy excited about but being such a classic zoo species I'll probably end up using every time.
I'm not quite sure where this underlying assumption came from that because more animals were being added to the game, every animal was going to be added to the game and it's some sort of betrayal if it doesn't happen.
(I lie - I know where it came from: standard human nature - but it's still odd how seemingly angry the idea that the game might be finite makes some people..!)
A nice batch of animals if (as it seems) this is what it ends on. Bit odd that there were no Exhibit animals for the last two, particularly for this grab-bag one (I suspect an internal resources decision) - all the more so that five more butterflies or five extra dart frogs or something would have seen them hit the big 2-0-0. The tortoise is one of those odd animals that I'm not crazy excited about but being such a classic zoo species I'll probably end up using every time.
Could I sit here and list things I wish had made it in? Yes, of course (mara, coati, an African croc, any bird you like...). Could I even think of specific swap outs for this pack? Also yes (a small ungulate was a definite gap but I would have picked pudu to get some more South America in there) - but that would mean losing a perfectly good animal (dik-dik is a great call in itself). Does this leave some annoying gaps (all the bears but one..!) Yep, probably. But I fear that fixating on what the pack isn't stops you enjoying what is there, and what is there looks great.
Also, a baboon and the Markhor were two of my biggest 'wants' so I'm predisposed to like this I guess.![]()
How are you surprised? If it was habitat birds they for sure should have been in the pack. Aviaries on the other hand…Edit to add that I am not at all surprised that birds didn't make an appearance. It's the perfect selling point for a sequel (besides better pathing... please frontier I beg)- why throw it in during the last DLC? Save it for the next one.
The game also has 195 animals with this pack, I wish and heavily doubt that we get another pack with: Secretary Bird, Tree Kangaroo, ABB, Coati and King Cobra.I think this pack is good for the most part, but not great. I really thought that they would go for 12 animals. If the coati, tree kangaroo, howler monkey, walrus and secretary bird would have been added, this pack would be a 10/10.
Maybe they are doing a part two?
I just wanted my coati.![]()
Maybe they have more animals in this pack but wanted then to keep them secret, but highly doubt it.The game also has 195 animals with this pack, I wish and heavily doubt that we get another pack with: Secretary Bird, Tree Kangaroo, ABB, Coati and King Cobra.
Me personally, I very much like this pack as a fan of primates, I'm glad to have a sifaka and baboon. I'm also kinda sad there's only one South American monkey, but a lot of the SA monkeys are fully tree-bound and the game engine as it stands just isn't ideal for that (A golden lion tamarin or howler spending most of its time walking on the ground wouldn't exactly be ideal, right?).
edit: current engine*
Can't help but share your sentiment. A lot of internet people have some very high expectations, and some very few expect way more out of Planet Zoo than can even be possible in the current engine (Like macaws and full aquatics!)

That's on you, not them.I think this pack is good and the roster is quite solid. The problem isn't the pack, but the perception of the fans. A lot of people became spoiled, including me, thinking that we would get 12 animals or a special mechanic added to the game if this was the zookeeper's animal pack/the last pack. The actual pack reflects reality. The sifakas animations are not an easy task, the dik dik requieres a new model and where getting a lot of scenery. The most of the PZ team moved to PlanCo2, so I see why we didn't get a "perfect pack". The expectations where to "perfect" in my opinion
birdsandbats probably meant you as in plural. It was mostly me, but other people also expressed the idea to have 12 animals. And I included myself in the category.
