It’s crazy how excited I am even though I have never visited bronx :p
I went when I was like 6-7, then when I was 10ish, I went again, and it was closed, and I was extremely disappointed 'cause I was so excited. Just so excited to finally get closure on this. It also rules this is the first big additional since what, the remade Children's Zoo almost a decade ago? Hopefully, this could mark a change in the direction of more investments in the Bronx.

Fun updates from today’s trip!

-There is now a pouched rat in the space that used to house the galagos in the mouse house! It is not yet signed and is very shy, but it is on habitat!
-There is also a tenrec in the mouse house now, but I have no idea how long it has been there
-Lastly in the mouse house, there is some cardboard up in the first set of windows for the elephant shrews, so it appears the pair without a baby may have one on the way ;)
-Unsure of when it arrived, but there appears to be a fully grown tomistoma in the larger crocodilian exhibits at the end of the hall in the reptile house. There are still adolescents in the last viewing window on the right before the exit
-The leopard habitat in Jungleworld has finally seen its wall come down with new glass installed. Signage still shows the old leopard info, but wouldn’t be surprised if we see a new species in here
-There are new walkways in Himalayas, as I suspected was happening a few weeks ago

Could we see clouded leopards? To be honest, I don’t know what can join that habitat besides birds or another leopard.

Regarding the sengis, do we know which pairs have had babies in recent months? Perhaps, it may help us figure out the expecting pair; and if you need to know which shrew is which, there’s always my Black-and-Rufous Sengis in NA Zoos thread to outsource from.

I know for the pair that had a baby in recent months, the female is Cindy and the male I’m almost positive is Bart.

On a semi-related note, with all the nocturnal species lost from captivity, what is the potential for the new exhibit? How ambitious would WCS be in bringing in rarely kept species or those new to North America?

Aye-ayes are the most likely addition given the promos, and there are very few aye-ayes in the US. I believe the current keepers are Duke, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Denver, Henry Doorly, Philly, and San Diego?

I have hazy memories of World of Darkness from my childhood but I do remember bats, a lot of rodents, and sand cats. Those seem like safe additions this time 'round. I would not expect genets or anything like that. I could see slow loris or bushbaby.

So last comment before the announcement happens. I was curious about the GIFs on the page, and seems we have 4 confirmed animals based on the titles of these GIFs. We'll see if we have more discussions about them in 27ish hours.
