South Lakes Wild Animal Park South Lakes / Safari Zoo Closure

It’s odd given how many animals are still on site (rhino, giraffe, lions, lemurs, bears, kangaroo etc). Are ZIC still expecting to reopen? What a mess.

Also, in response to someone a few months back, the baboons are still on site, just seen them from the road driving past.

I've not been able to find it for a while now is there any other place to get updates from them I was hoping to keep updated with where all the animal went

“NRHC initially wanted to accommodate exotic animals, including white rhino, giraffes, honey badgers, zebras, red panda, sloths and lynx, as well as UK domestic species.

However, subsequent revised plans excluded the former, proposing instead just a range of sheep, goats, pigs, cows, chickens, geese and ducks.”

The article also states works have already started despite not having planning permission.

What a shower…

How long will the remaining animals be deprived of a suitable home to care for them, it so sad!

I wish the courts would ban these people from owning animals and pass custody of the poor individuals remaining over to other accredited collections who can take them. (I know it’s not as simple as that but this is so upsetting to see)

Article on the BBC stating they have been refused plans for the new site, I wonder what that means for the remaining animals?

Warning the article has an upsetting picture on it.

Cumbria South Lakes safari bosses refused new zoo site

Glad to see they've been refused. SLSZ just needs to become a former collection and the land in new ownership that could turn it into something amazing. I know it'll never happen but it could be an amazing African elephant sanctuary/breeding herd as I'm sure they'd be enough space.

Guess with no Facebook page we'll probably never know where the remaining animals will end up.

Shame really as I'd have loved to know if they still had giraffe, rhino & 1:1 lions.

Unsure what other species they still had left

Have the Andean bears moved on yet? They are of most interest to me. Although if the individuals are elderly animals maybe they won't end up moving anywhere else.
