Just announced on social media minutes ago. Copied off Facebook. Very sad especially after the death of Baikal earlier this year

We’re sad to announce the passing of Lotus, our female red panda, due to chronic kidney disease.

Lotus was 12 years old and was first diagnosed with a kidney condition in March. She was being closely monitored and treated by our veterinary partners and keepers but over the weekend her condition deteriorated rapidly. Given her age and the fact she wasn’t going to recover from the condition the difficult and most humane decision was to put her to sleep to end her suffering.

Lotus was sweet in nature and had been at Folly Farm since the Summer of 2018 when our Asian Adventure exhibit opened. She will be greatly missed by her keepers and visitors alike. We hope to home red pandas again at Folly Farm.

Our thoughts are with our keeping team at this sad time.

Are there anymore species on the inventory that need moving around? I can make sure the list is properly updated if you want.

But I thought they still had the Banded mongoose... it was listed on their website when I checked not long ago.

Folly Farm have gone out of keeping a good few mammal species over the last few years like the Ocelot, Leopard Cat, Azara's Agouti, Central American Agouti, Six-banded Armadillo, Western Sitatunga, Nile Lechwe etc.

I didn't know until the other day that they no longer hold Kirk's Dik-Dik or the Reindeer.

The amount of birds the zoo keeps has also decreased. there used to be some small/ mid sized aviaries dotted around the zoo section.
