If a female goes from Jersey to Prague, it must presumably either be Mawar or Dana (Gina is much too old). Do you know which it might be?
 
It seems to me rather an unexpected exchange, at least from Jersey's side. Mawar is their main (pivotal) breeding female now, while Dana only arrived there quite recently and I think she had a problem birth.

Their male 'Dagu' actually came from a very bad (humanised) background though despite that he seems to be an entirely normal breeding male.
 
It will be Mawar with her 5-years old son who will move to Prague. I was told she is bullied by other orangs at Jersey, thats the cause why she moves.

I'm surprised Jersey are parting with her but they seem to have discovered that grouping (even)Sumatran Orangs doesn't always work very well as just a few years back they sent female Julitta and her baby daughter to Amneville in France for a similar reason, and then replaced her with Dana.

However Prague will get a good pairing with Mawar/Padang and almost definately breeding from them.

The zoo haven´t announced anything about it yet and there was no such animal on show last weekend. But the person who made this listing is 100% reliable, he is from zoo education dep.
 
Prague Zoo really keeps this species, a female lives together with Brush-tailed possum in the Indonesian tropical hall, they will get a male soon.

There are no news about the exact date when the orang females Mawar and Upita will be swaped.

- Buffy Fish-owls (Ketupa ketupu) have got 1 chick - parent-reared
- a new species is a pair of Helmeted Friarbird (Philemon buceroides)
- Zlin-Lesna has sent their last remaining 10 Chilean flamingos here, there are now exactly 200 flamingos at Prague zoo

Prague Zoo Looks Back at 2010

The number of visitors to Prague Zoo in the year 2010 reached almost 1 200 000 people. “The total number of visitors was 1 185 320, which is a very good result if we take into consideration the fact that the weather was not favourable, especially during the cold and rainy spring,“ said the spokesperson for the zoo, Jana Ptačinská Jirátová. The number of visitors roughly corresponds to the years 2005 and 2008, it is higher than in 2006 but lower than the record year 2009, when the zoo was visited by almost 1 300 000 people.

Big attraction – baby animals

The visitors to the zoo were attracted mainly by new born animals – their total number last year exceeded 1000! “Let’s name some of the most important ones – baby gorilla Kiburi (* 24th April 2010), 20 komodo dragons (*September 2010), two giraffe baby boys (Jakub, * 24th July 2010; Joel, * 14th October 2010). Another achievement is the birth of a mantled guereza, the first one after 24 years. We have also been successful with the breeding of the Kleinmann’s tortoise. We also had the 100th Cuban iguana in the history of Prague Zoo,” added Ms. Ptačinská Jirátová.

New expositions under construction

In the year 2010, we saw the start of the construction of an area for elephants, hippos and antilopes, opening of a bird exposition with the rare shoebills and the arrival of several animals to Prague Zoo. After several years, the visitors had the opportunity to see Malayan tapirs, a new Sumatran orangutan Padang or the new lowland gorilla Bikira.

Looking forward to new season

The year 2011 will open the 80th season in Prague Zoo. Its beginning will be marked by the opening of Gočár’s Houses. The celebrations of the 80th anniversary will also be marked with the prestigious conference The World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA), which will be held in October. “As well as that, we are impatiently waiting for the arrival of a short-beaked echidna and later also an amur leopard and a brown hyena,” said Ms. Ptačinská Jiráková.

Thanks for the info, I wish it would be soon, Padang has been used to living with a big close family group, and is now spending months on his own. There's a thread on here about male orangutans getting depressed when they move, at least if he had a new mate to think about it might help.
 
I found 3 pictures of Padang at Prague on someone's Flickr account. Hope it's okay to link ?? Here. The photos don't really give any idea of what his new surroundings are like. Hope he's doing okay, and not becoming depressed on his own as yet .... yes, I know mature males are naturally solitary, but he's had many years in a large family group so it must seem very strange for him.
 
I saw a photo of him in his outdoor enclosure and it looked spacious and with plenty of interesting stuff in - he almost disappeared in the bushes. I was told he's not easy to get pictures of because he hides though.
 
Actually Padang is not completely alone, he is mixed with a pair of white-handed gibons now and btw has a lot of fun with the female gibon. Pictures

The orang enclosure contains one outside cage, one main inside island and several smaller and plain off-show boxes. There are some pics in the respective galery.

That's good, he's used to tormenting gibbons. She doesn't appear too worried either.

There have been cases where young males of Padang's age group have become seriously depressed after moving between zoos. I think in one or two cases they have even been moved back to their previous home zoo to avoid a terminal decline.

I am not suggesting Padang is suffering from this- looking at the photos of his interactions with the Gibbon(s,) it looks like he has adjusted well to his move. In some photos he even appears to be 'coming on' to the Gibbon!
