Its interesting how we have two zoos in the UK that have recently bred these Pigs, but with entirely different approaches to the birth of piglets.
On the one hand, Howletts welcomes another new litter to their breeding pair, bringing the total in their group to nine, and recently highlighted on their website that the father is also with the group. They seem keen to build up their numbers. But they also say they are 'rarely seen in zoos'- don't they ever look on ISIS?
Edinburgh on the other hand created an enormous amount of bad publicity for themselves over euthanasing one litter and seemingly not knowing what to do with the next one either.
Why the huge difference in approach between the two places, when this species is in a so-called 'managed programme' ? I think perhaps its a case of the different zoos just doing what they want with their stock.
