Edinburgh Zoo Not again!

They are on the list of available animals at the moment.

Just athought, if they are on the available list, perhaps Trotters World in Cumbria would be a good home for them, they would certainly compliment their collection and also it would not be too far for them to travel.

Its interesting how we have two zoos in the UK that have recently bred these Pigs, but with entirely different approaches to the birth of piglets.

On the one hand, Howletts welcomes another new litter to their breeding pair, bringing the total in their group to nine, and recently highlighted on their website that the father is also with the group. They seem keen to build up their numbers. But they also say they are 'rarely seen in zoos'- don't they ever look on ISIS?:D

Edinburgh on the other hand created an enormous amount of bad publicity for themselves over euthanasing one litter and seemingly not knowing what to do with the next one either.

Why the huge difference in approach between the two places, when this species is in a so-called 'managed programme' ? I think perhaps its a case of the different zoos just doing what they want with their stock.

May I dare suggest that Howletts is being properly run at present unlike Edinburgh which is not, and perhaps Howletts are continuing the good work of its founder who had great respect for animals.

So the review on the Edinburgh zoo thread also suggests two more have been born at Edinburgh?

Yes, according to that there's two new ones, plus the three from the previous litter. It was the news on the Howletts website of another litter born recently to their pair which pointed up to me the quite different approaches- some places(Colchester, Howletts, Woburn) are happy to let their groups grow in size, while others, as we know, definately weren't (or still aren't?) I am still puzzled rather at this big disparity just within the management of one species but it will be interesting now to see what Edinburgh do with both these new piglets and the older ones, after the recent hooha.
