Does anyone know any other pregnant asian cows in europe than these?:

Khaing Phyo Phyo of Antwerp, 04/2009
Yashoda of Hamburg, 11/2008
Thong Tai of Amsterdam 04/2009?
And Douanita of Rotterdam 01/2009.

We're waiting for the official announcment of the probable pregnancies of the four ladies of Amersfoort ;)

Do you know when the zoo will test the females? I think if any of them are pregnant it would most likely be Jula or Chit Mi Mi apparently he mates with those two more often. Thus making a higher chance of a pregnancy.

Jula was the last elephant Alexander could mate.

I think the elephants were already tested but maybe they will do some more tests to be sure. Amersfoort had a very unpleasent experience last year with the birth and death of the baby of Indra, and they probably are not telling the public if and when a baby can be expected until they are 200% sure.

Hopefully Amersfoort will experince a least one calf. (That is alive,)

I'm hoping for more, not to see a bunch of calves walking around. But for some elephants it's time to have a baby. Chit Mi Mi and Jula never had a baby, and for them it's good to have one now. And it doesn't matter if the calf survives or not, altough we're al hoping for the first.

Just going back to post 184 on this thread about the largest Asian bulls in our zoos would anyone know the size and weight of Rex at Rockton in Canada, I have seen this bull up close and he seems his a good size?, for those of us with a real interest in elephants maybe we could put togeather a list of the "top ten" largest Asian bulls in zoos

Sorry Mark i haven't able to find anything, you are probably the one who would know his approxamate size. you can try to estimate his height, take example you, your height to Rex. Can you give me a photo with Rex next to another elephant?

You have got a great idea Mark i have been hoping for a top ten list for a while. Though i find it hard to find many of the bulls exact measurments here are some bulls that are quite big:

Radza (obviously) of emmen is 325cm and 7.2 tons.
Packy of Portland zoo is 6320kgs and around 315cm
Tusko also of Portland is around 6 tons and 10 feet?
And Bindu of cologne is 5500kgs and 315cm.

Naing Thein of Prague is 5700kgs, he has a slim stomach so he must be at least 10 feet i think.
Bong su of Melbourne is the southern hemisphere largest ( in captiviy) though is over 3 meters and just over 5 tons, there are many much bigger.

Alexander of Amersfoort is over 5500kgs last weighed but height i am unsure of.
Chieng Mai of Copenhagen must be quite large to at least some extent because of his age.
According to Kerala royal elephants, the prestigious marks are 10 feet and 5000kgs
Do you have any others? I'll keep researching.
cheers

I would not like to try to estimate the size of Rex, I could be way of the mark there, maybe one of our North American members may know?, The only pics I have of him are in the gallery and as he was alone in his own yard and can not be compared to others there.

I can't find him in the gallery what is it under?
Perhaps Untbwe can help us with the measurements of Europe bulls?
