Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden What's Gnu At The Cincinnati Zoo? - 2013

The most recent Africa layout seems to have the zebras in a separate enclosure from the main hoofed stock yard. One could deduce that this mean the zoo will use their current Grevy's zebras as opposed to bringing in a new, more docile species for the exhibit next year.

One could deduce alot of things. For example, that the zoo wants grass in the hoofstock yard:D

A friend told me tonight that Wings of the World was temporarily closed due to a bird escaping from its exhibit. I bet it was a bird from South America and Australasia since their barriers are two, slow moving sliding doors.

All in just one month there were a ton of changes.

- I have a picture of the cheetah exhibit and all of Africa
- A Gouldian Finch and a Potto was also born.
- The baby African helmeted turtle replaced the ornate horned frogs.
- The Bat Cave Cockroach and Red eyed assassin bugs switched
- Cave whip spiders replaced the stag beetle
- The Australian and spiny leaf walking sticks are back in their old home
- The eastern lubber grasshoppers replaced the giant jumping sticks
- The giant jumping sticks replaced the Australian and spiny leaf walking sticks
- The Malaysian katydids are in the old eastern lubber grasshopper exhibit
- The hissing cockroaches and green leaf katydid switched
- They finally put signs in for the mysterious turtles in the mandate springs greenhouse. They are Mississippi map turtle, Red eared slider, and Barbours map turtle.
- Padmae the aardvark and Lucy the Bearcat are now the only one's in the nursery
- The zoo broke the Zoochatters biggest rule... The large spotted genets replaced the cloud rat.. in the Asian animal building.
- Even though the sign says grey bamboo lemur there were two pottos in there.
- Bar-headed geese are back with Nikki
- Two lorikeet species were added to lorikeet Landing- Red and Cardinal lories
-Azul, the Hyacinth macaw and crested screamers are back on their shared island
- There is now a rhinoceros hornbill in the Wings of Wonder show holding
- Some blue-clawed lobster species was added with the MataMata in Wings of the World.
- The golden silk spider was taken out and now the Manatee Springs exhibit just contains pitcher plants.

I know they broke a geographic rule but I can't help but be happy that the Cape Genets are back on exhibit!:D

What happened to the Grey Bamboo Lemurs?

Yeah I'm happy that they're not gone as well. I don't have a clue what happened to them. When the lemurs were moved out of the aye-aye exhibit two pottos were also removed. Maybe the pottos just share the exhibit with them now and I didn't see them.

Okay thanks!:)

That Banded Palm Civet is still kicking in Night Hunters, right?

One of the Smithsonian National Zoo's male Transvaal Lions, named John, has left for the Cincinnati Zoo. Seems I'll be seeing him for the second time:)

When John and his siblings were born in 2010, they were the most genetically valuable Lions in North America so hopefully he'll kick off the first non-inbred Lion population at Cincinnati since who knows when.

The last lions that were born at the zoo, or at least white lions, was August 1998.

You guys know that red crowned crane that was supposed to hatch? Well it did, except it was a Canada goose! The cranes are surrogates. The chick hatched on the 21ist.

I suspect that Klyde has left for the Sedgwick County Zoo since his crate is no longer there.
